Closet Grow - Need Advice..

I am about to start my first grow... This will be for purely personal use.. here is what I am planning..

I am using a closet for a grow room. It is a small walk in closet with hanger railing all around it. I am going to use white vinyl shower curtains on S hooks all around the closet, so there will be a little room between the curtains and walls of closet... grow area will be on inside of curtains.

I am attaching a 400W HPS light on a cable hanging from the ceiling of closet. I am going to Germinate outside of grow room with small CFLs. Then moving to grow room for growth/veg and flowering. I will be using the 400W HPS for the lighting throughout the grow.

I will be growing 2 different strains... I am planning to purchase from Hemp Depot... Joey Weed's AK47 F2 and Joey Weed's Blueberry F2... 4 plants of each to start...

I am planning on having 8 plants to start out with... to account for at least 2 plants not making it through first stages, which brings it down to 6 plants, then 50% males to get rid of, which would bring me down to 3 plants to hopefully end with. The plants will be in 2 gallon pots sitting in 2 rubbermaid type plastic tubs(short under bed type tubs) with no lid used. This is mainly to keep everything real clean. I am using soil. I will also be setting up a thermometer in room and will be using moisture meter and other equipment...

I will be using a small oscillating fan throughout to promote strong stems and to cycle the air.

I will also be using a box fan with a furnace filter attached to back(something I learned from the boards).. The filter will have an active carbon layer. This will be to get rid of odor outside grow room.

So..... What does everyone think? Does this sound good for a first grow... any mistakes I might be making? Any tips?... Any feedback will be helpful and appreciated... Thanks...

I've discovered the cheapest Mylar around-- only 2 bucks$! You save 18 bucks$ a roll! It?s a Christmas present wrapping Mylar called Polywrap



- Waterproof
- 50 square ft. a roll
- 1 mil (@ .001 inch) thick X 3 1/2 ft. wide X 20ft long.

Note: Only buy the very Bright and shiny Mylar-type wrapping!

nice to see some prep before the grow. looking forward to the time when i can have a fixed address with a fixed grow room, rather than carting my shit around every year for a half arsed setup. although it really does work

What does everyone think if I ditch the shower curtain idea and just put a reflective sheeting on the walls?

Keep the curtain and still add the reflective sheeting. When it comes to keeping light out more is better. The curtain will just add more of a barrier to the light. Plus reflective sheeting isn't the strongest stuff in the world.

I ended up buying reflective sheeting from my local hydro shop since it is a long time til Christmas wrapping paper will be back... The reflective sheeting cost me $50 for the roll!!!!... better be some darn good stuff...

Green Phoenix, just be careful with a HPS lighting system in your closet. It will get hot as shit in there if proper ventilation precautions are not taken. Good Luck.

I'm in the same boat with u green, I'm growing some og kush, afghan, and white widow. n its also in a closet lol how is ur growth coming along?

I hope you are sticking the ballast in the attic or you have some really good vent fan in there or it's going to be too hot.
google "diy cooltube" if it's still too hot with the ballast out of the closet.

i am growing in a smal closet and am using 400 hps and yes ventalation ventalation for shure i ran a fan and ductwork into my attic and away from the closet and seems to work well temps stay a easy 78 80 and they seem to love it so far! computer fans are a dime a dozen and work well also a good filtered intake ! good grow! man have fun knowledge is the key thesepeople and forums have kept me goin
