Closet Grow (Lots of Pics)

After experimenting with CFLs and an indoor/outdoor schedule, we've decided to change over to a closet HID grow.

Let me catch you up. We started with 11 bagseeds of some good nugs, and about 25 mids bagseeds. We started them in peat pellets under 8 23w CFLs and natural sunlight. We got all 11 of the better bagseeds to sprout around mother's day, and only about 3 out of the 25 mids plants seemed to be worth keeping. After transplanting them into bigger pots using MG Organic Choice potting soil, growth began to slow to a crawl. Then we dealt with some heavy yellowing and just generally unhealthy looking plants. From there we took a road trip for some Foxfarm Ocean Forest and a bottle of FF Big Bloom. Things started to perk up again after transplanting the healthiest looking ones into the Ocean Forest, and we decided to order a 400w MH/HPS from htgsupply. Here we are now:

Temp and Humidity were a little low because we had the door to the closet off for the pictures. Working to get it perfect.

To the left are 9 of the 11 original nug plants which were left in the MG soil (we mixed some ocean forest into a few of them which were low). To the right is some newly started seedlings, including 1x Skywalker seed and 2x Pineapple Punch seeds. Along with some more higher end bagseeds. The 2 plants with the most growth are the 2 of the 3 surviving mids plants.

Top left is the Skywalker, to the right of that is one of the Pineapple Punch's below those is the other pineapple punch which has yet to break the soil, along with another bagseed. Under those are 2 bagseed sprouts. And under those are 2 of the nug plants that we originally planted in the MG soil which have since started to grow much healthier. Under that is a mids plant that seems to be some sort of mutant, that we've left growing just to see it survive haha. And off to the right are the 2 thriving mid plants.

One of the healthier nug plants; added some Ocean forest to the bottom of this pot and seemed to help it out bigtime.

Skywalker planted on June 6th.

Okay I've typed way too much. Pause for a blunt.

There we go. :blsmoke: Back to the pics.

Some nice looking foliage (Mids)

Another nug plant.

Another nug planted on 6/6. Any Idea whats causing the wrinkled leaves??

And one last parting shot.

Any tips that would steer me into the best grow possible would be greatly appreciated! (It is my first)

Do you have any kid of ventilation other than those 3 small ones? Like an exhaust? How are your temps?

No ventilation as of yet. Was thinking of adding some DIY co2. Our temps range from 75-90, depending on how many fans are on. Not sure of temps during lights off.

ok this is just my advise, but try to keep temps say at 78ish,perhaps order a 6inch inline fan from htgsupply for a exhaust fan to help get rid of that hot air for you.
and remember with more plants come more odor,i don't know what your situation is with that issue but look in the DIY faq for carbon filters,u can set one up for i belive 40 bucks and they work quite nice.
perhaps get a soil ph tester at your local garden store to check your ph,and do u have timers? for your lights?and fans?well ill be here to help dono if that does

We do have ph and moisture testers, those have been pretty stable. We do have a timer for the lights/fans also. Odor has not (yet) become a problem but I'm sure it will soon. The 2 tallest plants are begging to smell skunky from close up so I will look into the carbon filter. Any advice you can give helps! Trying to give our girls the best!

You should keep a fan on at night too . They use Oxygen at night like the use Co2 in the day . Mold grows in the dark too . You need fresh air and if humid and/hot you need an exhaust . Sit in your chamber with lights off and all the lights on in the attached room (if you haven't already) - light leaks mess up sooo many new gardens .

How far is your light from the plant ?

Thanks for the advice. We're gonna keep 1 fan on at night now. At night the temp drops to about 60, is that cool enough to get away with having no exhaust? The fan will help drop it a few degrees too I'm sure. As for light leaks -- The attached room and the next room over are never lit during dark hours, so it shouldnt be a problem. Thanks again for your help. Stay tuned for a closet full of girls (hopefully).

*Update*

So it has been just about a week and things are looking good. One of the mids plants started to show it's preflowers today. And its a girl! :hump: Atleast I'm 95% sure it is. The pictures don't do it much justice but 2 fine white hairs shot up around the 6th or 7th node. The other hasn't shown yet. We're going to start flowering the 2 mids plants tomorrow to get a definite on the sex.

Took some pictures today:

#1 - Plant that showed it's preflowers today
#2 - Zoomed view of preflowers (looks much more distinct in person)
#3 - Skywalker, Pineapple Punch, and 2x bagseed seedlings started on 6/6, growing nicely under the 400w MH
#4 - 2 Mids Up front, 2 nugs in the back, and some stragglers from the first batch of seeds.

I like you setup, I am setting up the same right now ( for next grow ) that looks literally the same except for your HID light setup. I will be using strictly CFL bulbs for it, I have the same exact walmart fans and temp meter.

Only thing I can suggest is get rid of everything PAPER in your setup, or anything that absorbs moisture - during your lights off mold can fester inside the cardboard and ruin ur entire crop slowly but surely
