Closet Grow gotFondue

This will be my first real grow, with a real grow light haha!

I started growing about 3 weeks ago with a 70 watt HPS security light I had purchased from Home Depot (HD). This was a completely failed attempt at growing. I returned the light and then went out and purchased a 400 watt HPS grow light and ballast plus air cooled hood.

I am in the process of looking for a 400 watt MH conversion bulb for this set up as to help my clones veg for a while. Any suggestions on conversion bulbs would be greatly appreciated.

Well my setup for growing:

Size: 6'x3'x10' (Will not be using all the space only 4 plants.)

Light: 400 watt HPS

Plants: Not sure yet, going to pick them up in a few minutes from the clinic. I am only going to get 4.

Soil: I am using Miracle Grow

Pots: two 12 inch pots and two 6 inch pots.

Nutes: I have SUPERThrive and some Marine Cuisine (some old lady gave me the Marine Cuisine at the local nursery)

Well this is the start I will have pictures posted when I get everything set up. The light should get here sometime today.

So I just picked up my clones (Pictures when my camera battery gets some juice.) I got 4 Grape Ape clones. All look healthy and ready to grow. I am not sure if I should re-pot them right away tho. They seem to be in decent size pots but I don't want them to get root bound. When I put up some pictures would anyone let me know what to do? I need someone to really guide me through it and be my mentor as I am pretty new to this. Also anyone have suggestions as to my water choice? I am using bottled water because my tap water here smells like sewage (looks clean but it fucking smells like swamp ass).

Need good ways to cool down closet as it is way to hot! About 90.5 90.8 with the lights on at night with two fans blowing. One directly onto the light and one huge fan right about blowing hot air out of the room. I am looking at A/C at target for $110. Seems like a good investment except it will lower my humidity down a lot. Still looking for someone to help guide me through this grow. I would really appreciate it, I would love to grow some plentiful crops.

Pictures will be posted tomorrow morning.

Alright so I woke up this morning and the temperature was about 95 degrees in there! I said fuck that it's too hot I need A/C. So I went out and bought an A/C yet I can't mount it in my window since the window seal is the incorrect kind. So the cool down effects from it are very limited. I think I just need to get a couple more fans to help vent this room. I will also post my pictures right after this post. Still need some people to help guide me through this grow and give me pointers and advice.

Here are those pictures of the babies I will also be taking some more pictures of the light and the plants now. One of the 4 plants is showing burnt leafs from being too close to the light last night. So I lowered the plants from the light and turned on that A/C. I think the temperature will drop soon.

Not to mention it has been hotter then hell in LA.

I would love for some people to help guide me through this grow alsokiss-ass

Conversion Bulb: htgsupply.com
Fans: Find a way to exhaust the air from the closet/area. That website has good inline fans to look at. I'm sure you can find better deals on other websites though if you look around for them.

Hey Iron, thanks for coming in and helping me out!

The only bad thing about the closest is that it only has a door in and out no other openings. Right now I have 1 HV 20 inch fan and a 20 inch window box fan blowing air out and one small rotating desk fan in side.

I am just having a hard time with the light heating the closet up. During the day with the lights on it gets up to about 91ish, with the lights off right now after about an hour of lights out the temp is at 82.4 with humidity at 33%. I have also added a water bottle with sugar and yeast to help give some C02 help. I have a 5,200 BTU A/C running 24/7 to help cool my studio down. I have no central A/C so it's really hard to keep cool to begin with. Then adding the 400W HPS light its near impossible. I am limited on space so I can't run any ducting out the window. Any more help with cooling things down I would love to hear anything.

I will also be posting more pictures tonight after my camera charges up some. I haven't been seeing much growth I think it might be due to the high temperatures during the day and night.

So just woke the girls up from sleep. 18/6 is what I'm doing. I also took some pictures of the light burn one of the little ones got. Also the larger one seems a bit yellow anyone else notice it? I think it could be from shock as well as not adjusted to the new light.

That is also a 41% for humidity. That is the high and low for my closet. What is the cheapest way I can cool that closet down?

easy gotfondue just read your post and looking at your picture it looks like you need to sort out air to be inputted and extracted from that room.

QUESTION: can you cut holes in that door or not? if not can you get another door you can chop hols in?

The reason being you need adiquate air exchange. this is very important for the plant to grow propperly. i have found this out the hard way with a 400w hps light, i had majour problems with temp to which reduced my yeilds alot. i have since gone down 2 a 250w hps and will use the 400w for the last few weeks to fatten up the buds some more, but back to the point in question.
your size of light needs a cool tube or some kind of cool hood/shade and an inline extraction fan, just for the light to keep that coo.l it is possible to make them if you follow this link you should find a good one
https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/8503-build-my-own-cool-tube.html
or have a search around for the info, then you need at least 2x 4" bathroom extraction fans, one at the top of the door and one at the bottom, this should not not cost to much and make a considerable difference to your plants and yeild, i would also leave window open all the time as long as you cover the bottom intake fan with a filter like a stocking say it will keep little mites gettin in should be sweet.

i have also used same DIY co2 bottle which seems to be working well.

hope this is some use to you but keep up good work....

peace........:peace:

Forget about conversion bulbs mate. Get a dual spectrum hps, use it from start to finish. About the temps, a cool tube is def the way to go.

Hey MrFloaty! Thanks for that post man!

I had never even thought about buying a new door for that room. It has a double door set up. So I can have one door on the inside and one on the outside. I will probably just buy a new door and remove the old one and add those fans. I should have thought about that a while ago! Sheesh! Also the cool tube was something I was thinking about but never found any good info I will definitely make one of those if not buy one. HAHA! You saw that Co2 bottle? I was thinking if anyone could even tell what it was. You think that's enough or should I add like 3 of them in there?

Geozander, I have never heard of that! It sounds like an amazing thing to have I will surely look into buying one of those. Thanks for giving me that tid bit of info!

So the temps today in my area were 100+ the temp in my grow room reached a top temperature of 90.3! I was shocked that having the A/C on 24/7 and those two floor fans on a low setting blowing the cool air into the closet was enough to keep them down today. I will get right on the door thing today making one shouldn't be that hard two holes in the top and bottom some hinges, a lock and a door knob should do the trick. This also means I can rig up a carbon filter for later use.

Another question I had, since my humidity is also pretty low, what I have been doing is filling up plastic 16oz cups with water and leaving them inside my grow room. This seems to help a lot adding 30% more humidity to the air. The only thing I was worried about was pests, should I have to worry about them at all? I also have a fan running in there at all times.

Alright so have had the lights on for about 3 and a half hours now. The temp is at 80.5 (It is 3:30 AM where I am at) so for now I am fine until I go out and buy me a cheap door to start cutting up.

I did take some new pictures. I noticed some white stuff on the leafs didn't know what it was. Also the first plant looks very yellow to me. I have noticed she likes to droop a lot after I have had the light on right b4 bed time.

Moved the light up further trying to help the heat out at growing level. What would you guys recommend I do about the burnt leaves? Trim them off, or just leave them?

Something on one of the smaller plants I have no clue what it is, can anyone tell me what it is? Looks like a shoot and two hairs coming out of it (I have a feeling I am being stupid for asking that).

*Added the extra picture just to see how PURPLE these fuckers are!*

easy gotfondue, its a pleaser to be of help to someone, i can defo recommend a small bathroom extraction fan for top and bottom of your door then thnings should get easier with the temp.
talkin of which the big necrotic looking peaces on your plants look like heat burn i would move your light a few feet away from your plants, remember the plants are little and the light is powerful and hot, they say put your hand just above the top of the plant if your hand feels comfatable with the heat then sweeeeeet if not move your lights away, they will still get enought light to grow big and fat.

the little white spots i think is the dreaded spider mite ( little fuckers) have you had fresh air comming in from the outside without any filter to catch the particals, if not it could quite possible be spidermite. have a look very closely at the plant leaves (use a magnifing glass if needs be), branches and on the underside of the leaves, you will seen very tiny little specs of what looks like dirt MOVING!!!!!, THEN ITS COMFERMED!!!!.

first thing get pure neem oil, or any spacific spidermite spray. spray your plants as instructed and then again a week later, the other thing you can do now is to raise your humidity up to about 80% this will cause the little fuckers to pop, and to also reduce the temp as much as possible at night. they will soon scater or die keep this up till no further signes show,
remove significantly damaged leaves after spraying as these leaves are not doing there job properly. if they are very badly spotted then the infestation maybe bad and you need to remove plants, disingfect growroom and start again.
these little shits are the bain of many growers lives, they say you should never come from outside to inside your grow room as you will bring in insects pollen from other platns etc, so much so to where spacific clothes just for your grow.

to raize your humidity there are 3 ways, place water in bowl in your your grow room like you have already, spray your plants reg with water, or get a humidifer from your Hydro shop or get one from a baby store they are cheeper there, its a little water bowl with heater and timer which blows out steem so help with breathing eh should be no more then £30. about $50

Alright so, just out of curiosity I wanted to check my roots to see where they were at. I bought them at my local clinic so I didn't know the exact DOB. Well tell me if you think it is time to transplant them. I think so they are three different plants, not the same.

Wow, I didn't think they were this old.

I am going to go get some new soil right now be back in 20 min.

So I transplanted them into bigger pots. I need to go get two more larger size pots to match the other two.

Potted with ROOTS organic soil. I am now adding nitrogen to the yellow plant as I think that is the problem. The pH was good, and the water was also good.

So I just bought some SPRAY SAFE from my local hydro shop. He said it is one of the best that not only kills the mites but kills the eggs. Just pour it into a spray bottle and let at it. So covered everything with the stuff the underside of the leaves, the stems, the tops, the soil (just a little over spray but shouldn't hurt right?) I also trimmed the dead leaves off of that other plant (the one with the mites) and everything should be doing good. The temps are really reduced so far.

Working on getting the door setup finished and getting a cool tube made really soon! Should I start my plants on any nutes?
