Closet and venting

Hey guys I have a temporary spot to grow with my 4x4 tent. I have a good idea of what I want to do with this space but I wanted to know what other's thought of how I am going to vent out without destroying the closet.

Vent into the loft/attick above? You could run flexi duct through the hatch if you dont wanna be cutting holes in the ceiling it wont be pretty orr efficient but it might do

I grow in a closet…..it’s smaller, 2’x6’ with an 8’ ceiling. I have an attic opening just like yours. I run a 4” exhaust fan directly through the attic cover…and it works great.
Before you make any moves, you’ll want to identify what, if anything, is in the attic. In my case, it’s an empty, uninsulated space that has air vents open to the outside. So there is nothing to ruin.
You don’t want to be pumping a ton of moist air into a closed in space without considering its effects.
If it were me, I’d just grow in the open closet…..but that’s up to U.

Your sacrificing a bunch of head room with that tent...like Bullmark said I'd grow in there without it.
Cut a hole in attic board to vent through if it's a vented attic.

If it's vented well it shouldn't be an issue.

Is it your house?
I'd lift the loft hatch and build a rig so you dont have to damage that hatch.

In an ideal world I'd duct directly to a vent in the attic if it's possible

Trust me you cannot vent warm wet air into a attic of any kind if outside temps drop below freezing it will condense an drip in the attic which leads to mold very quick.

Skip the tent.. make a new hatch for attic out of cardboard with a vent in it. Mount your exhaust fan in the attic pulling through the vent. A drip pan for the space your pots sit. and some circulating fans (2) Strips around the inside of the door so no light leaks. :peace:

no good that attic will be dripping an moldy, you will need to run the vent duct at least to the soffit if thats vented?
I think that depends on his latitude. If he never sees freezing? And the amount of flow? how many lights? My house was built with the bath vent fan emptying into the attic right next to the soffit.

Go to the nearest local building salvage center, and buy a cheap used door with the same matching dimensions. Cut your intake and exhaust holes into it, and swap it with the current one. Keep the original door stored away somewhere safe, until you need to change it back. Bada bing bada bang!

Same with the hatch, just swap it for some other temporary plywood panel to cut your hole in. Add a few inches of foam. That way you aren't messing with the original one.

Thats Illegal here. But ya if the temps stay above 40f year round it might be fine We stay below or around freezing 5 months of the yr I have seen brand new out building full of mold in less than a yr from venting into a cold attic space shit i have seen ceiling dripping thur from venting into cold attics.

Leave the door open.

If you live where it gets cold you will regret blowing warm moist air into a attic very quick.
That’s what I was trying to get at when I warned about venting into the attic. My situation is a little different from the norm. My grow space closet is in a seperate structure from my main house. And the exit hole from the exhaust fan is about a foot or two from a huge vent, so it’s practically outside.
I am curious though, if it wasn’t so close to an outside vent, what is the end result of blowing the warm air into a closed in space that gets cold (freezing and below) in the winter?? Mold?

As long as the loft has adequate vents it is fine if not the yes you guys are right it can cause problems assuming theres enough vents it be fine to vent into if not sort that before u vent in there op

That warm moist air will condense to water an start dripping when it hits that cold air. mold will form shortly after. even if the attic has vents like ridge or soffit its not enough, The vent duct needs to be run to the soffit or the ridge an blown out with a fan. Iam talking from first hand experience. The colder it is the worst it can be.
