btw I'm bein lazy so I ordered hinges online instead of trekking to a hardware store, lol. Pics of the door come when the hinges do, haha.

Also, so I'm not liking how I have side lighting on the sides but not the ends... my buddy gave me a couple giant CFL's... i'm thinkin I'll hang one on center at each end... should not only fill in the end lighting but also help give some more side lighting to the inside edge of both rows too, albeit indirectly.

The other option is I could actually center-hang the lights from the main fixture between the two rows of plants... but since I'm bushing these (and praying for few males) I EXPECT to eventually have canopies that meet right in the middle, which would nix the possibility of "inside" sidelighting. However, I could do it for now, then move them to the end when the canopies widen up. I'll have to see how well those giant CFL's fit in between there and see if I can devise an easy way to hang the lights from the flat surface on the bottom of the ballast box...

Alright so 54w x 16 bulbs = 864w... I'm considering adding two 125w CFLs for a total 1114w... heh... that might be overkill, really... but then... maybe I'll just do it anyway... heh. The bulbs are pretty big so center hanging wouldn't work, but I might have a lamp or two that would work as free-standing center lights between the smartpots... hmmm...

Haha... 70f flat and holding. :0]

I'm gonna hold off on adding more for now, but probably will do it up... I might wait til after the males are culled and see how crowded things look at that point and deem if it's necessary...

Nice bro very nice. I just chopped the top off one of my autos. Think it was a few days early but I was out of tree lol so I had to replenish my stash.

Still waiting for those pics of your ventilation setup :)

Gotta do what you gotta do... I've been rationing heavily.. I expect to have to take a break before harvest at this rate.

Ventilation pics as soon as the door's hung... waitin on a delivery with the hinges...

Seems that every time I try to ration I always end up smoking more lol.

I'm not gonna complain tho the top cola weighed 23 wet. So I'm satisfied lol.

I've been itching to try Strawberry Cough so I ordered a single feminized seed from Attitude... they sent me a free Critical Jack Herer too. :0] Nice two-for.

So I'm planning the follow-up run for the space now. heh.

My plan is to start a mother from seed, fim it out, and when there's enough mass, take between 10-15 clones and pop them in an ezcloner, then try going right into 12/12 from the cloner next time. I'm just not really sure how many to do, or how big the pots should be yet. On one hand I could fit like 30 1gal pots in there, theoretically, if I wanted to, but I feel like I'd be crowding the plants. Maybe not if I discouraged sidebranching and grew straight up colas. Going right to 12/12, that might work. Would be annoying to water, though.

But maybe I'll take fewer clones and use bigger containers, but stick with 12/12 from clone, and see what happens with that... hmmm.

Anyway, my plan is to start a mother in a separate space while the current flower run goes thru... I'd like to have her ready to take clones from by the time the current batch is done... so I figured I'd start the seed when I throw the switch to 12/12... the mother can grow and get fimmed while the flowers grow out... I think that'd work out timing wise...

i would do 30 1 gal pots :) clones 12/12 in them pull fine for when i was in my prime(old setup horizonal under HPS MH 800w) single cola 2-3 oz per plant sog and a little lolipopping. in your setup i can see more because you got a squat bush like setup. but even so i dont think you bushs will be too wide, if you can keep them growing upwards. so blue bulbs in the top fixtures if it where me. i get similar growth under my T5 but i do a switch up straight into vert HPS and using the stretch to my advantage, trying to get the light to cover all the nodes evenly between the leaves.

Hmm... my original plan for the second op was the 30 1 gal's, maybe I'll still go for it, we'll see how things go. I could buy 30 smart pots, I'd have to come up with a piece of wood to lay over my two rollies to make it into one big platform, hehe. Doable, though, I'm sure I could pull that off. I am excited to try a SOG for once.

I don't really have a lot of blue to spread across the top lighting. I could switch the couple that I have for some of the floras or 6500ks in the top row, but honestly the growth has been pretty nice as is. :0]

But maybe you just meant for the sog grow, because it might discourage as much bushing? Do you think side lighting is bad news for a SOG for this reason in general?

If that's the case I might start engineering a plan to make it so my two 4 footers hang side by side in front of the current fixture for a full 8x3 footprint to sog within... would be challenging to manage that, I'd have to make a second roller or two, something that can fit out the doorway easily even though it's square... I'd have to brainstorm heavily, but it could be possible.

I am excited to see what all the sidelighting does for budding on these fimmed 3 gal ladies when the time comes. I'm hoping for a lot more lower-stem bud development than I got in before. Not that it's really a fair comparison since I changed so many variables... just want to see some good payoff from that sidelighting since i'm putting just as many watts into the sides as I am into the top...

You could Set up a drip system if you have a little free cash, would make the watering easier. Or you could make a DWC like some things I have seen around here to ease the watering. One of those shallow rubbermaid bins that has a larger surface area, drop the clones into a bunch of smaller baskets in the lid, and turn on your air pump.

Haha, that's true. I could make the jump to a DWC system and give that a try. It would certainly be easier to do a sog that way. The drip system is an idea too, but from what I've heard more of a pain in the ass to do with soil, probably be better off learning to set up DWC effectively with less headaches...

How does size scaling work with hydro? Like, if I was planning to do 1 gal pots would I need a 1 gal basket? Or does the basket size not even matter because the roots end up in the chamber below anyway? How then does one plot container size? Is there a rule of thumb like there is for soil? (I've heard 1 gal of soil/mix per foot of height planned) ...a figure to be multiplied by number of plants for total gallons needed in the container?

BTW, glad you found your way over here, thanks for joinin the discussion!

Yeah, I kind of dropped out of RIU for a while (Decided to start college, and got busy). Then I kind of lurked in the non-growing area for a while, too much drama in the grow forums. haha

I grew a 4'x2' scrog under my 8 bulb bad boy HOT5 that grew about 5" above the screen with one 5 gal rez in a dwc. It had a 10" basket, so it was more like 3.5-4 gal. after medium and root displacement. I had to top it up every two days on average. So that would be 4 gallons for 8sq-ft. of plant that has a ton of 5" colas. For ease of maintenance, maybe shoot for 2gal a sq-ft.? I rounded up alot for easier maintenance. If you use a shallow rez, elevate it though; simplifies rez changes so you can drain it without removing the plants. This is just a general idea, as I am no DWC master by any means. Only done about 5 runs with it so far, and they were all single plant. I wasn't to do a DWC sog myself though, so I have been tossing ideas around in my head.

Other people, please feel free to poke holes in my suggestions. As I said, these are all just ideas, haven't put them into practice yet.

One word. Waterfarm lol.

Nah DWC is cool if you need any help let me know got a few DWC grows in my past.

KP is right though. If your going to do DWC make sure your rez is easy to change. Hence why I said waterfarm lol. At first it's not bad to do rez changes but once those girls grow up you wont be able to just take the plant out and change it as easy. Just make sure your rez is elevated to make changing it easy.

drip is a PIA for sog but worth it once its done right. side lighting is good for any setup, the reason fo the blue bulbs is like you said but even more so to use phototrophism to your advantage making them stretch up instead of out.

Oh hey guys, I gotta read back over the last few comments and catch up, but I didn't look at my plants for a day and when I came up they were all gowing into the lights, lol. Shit is out of control. I hope I can figure out a good way to support the side-growth. I might have to rig up some vertical screens attached to the rollies or something. Hmm, that's not a bad idea.

ANyway, here's a pic update, the growth is great... the drainage in this mix is so much better than straight OF was.

I've got six sidelight bulbs on now, two left to go. I was planning on flipping to 12/12 at 12", hoping for around Dec. 1st...

I like the logic... I am picturing larger totes with several smaller baskets... I guess the basket size is negligible since the roots grow down and in anyway, right? Anyone who wants to chime in on DWC, I'm curious as to what the benefits would be of a larger or smaller net basket size...
