Closest seeds to Haight Ashbury 90's weed

During the 90s I have bought weed at Haight Ashbury in San Francisco in dime bags or in surrounding parks in that area. 10 dollars for a dime bag but it was typical chronic/kind weed at the time. The bag was usually dark green or clear and had little stars on them. The little nuggets inside the bag were lime green, sticky, orange hairs, full of crystals, and smelled and tasted like a pine forest. 2 or 3 hits tops to get high AF. More indica than sativa if I had to judge.

Who sells a similar strain today?

A dispensary.

A dispensary.
I know it wasn't a serious answer but I'll treat your answer as if it was one. Okay dispensary...

Have not found any product in any dispensary (in California) that sells a similar product to that 90's bay area kind bud/humboldt. I've tried following brands : 710 Labs, Cannabiotix, Blem, Heirloom from Cannabiotix (their Super Silver Haze is a joke), Team Elite Genetics, Canndescent, all the mids brands like Alien Labs, Connected Cannibis, Tedz Buds, everything.

Have not found any phenotype or genetics not even closely resembling what was available at a place like Haight Ashbury in any dispensary ever. Not in terms of genetics, smell, smoke, high, or quality. Most of the weed I find at a dispensary is some cross of zkittles, runts, etc and usually smells like licorice.

If you're being serious, where is the dispensary and brand/type of bud they sell that resembles that northern california bud of the 90s?

Otherwise, can anyone point me to any seed seller that sells genetics similar to these lost strains of the yesterday?

Sounds like the old Xmas tree bud!!

If you're trying to catch the highs of years past you will be chasing the dragon. Even if you could smoke the exact same stuff your body would process it completely differently. To answer your question there are not many (any really) people making seeds with weed they have kept for 30 years. You will find people claiming to use older cuts but they are almost always relying on the word of someone else so u gotta take that with a grain of salt. My opinion is most of the older cuts that have came back around are repros. I hope someone can help you out but there have been 100 people who have put out roadkill skunk seeds for example and somehow even with 1000s of skunk packs being sold nobody has yet come forth with a skunk clone. Best of luck
Interestingly enough I have 2 skunk #1 autoflowers from Sensi Seeds in my tent right now just a few weeks away from harvest. Definitely the strongest smelling plants in my grow but let's see if it's anything like the superskunk from Oakland I had back in the day. Passed out after 1 hit. Now I find it a good laugh if anyone claims there is weed like that found in a dispensary. I am considering the Piff Coast Brands products. Weed I bought more than a few times from bodegas in Spanish Harlem were some legit stuff. If the seeds have that kind of quality that is more than enough.

The problem you have is that the strain you had got some of the flavor from the soil and might of needed more than 10 weeks.
Very few breeders would select a plant to breed If it had less yield and took longer.:peace:

Man, I know exactly what you are looking! I grew it like 10 years ago and it’s still around. It’s Mandala Hashberry. Notice how the name is a twist on Ashbury? Back in the day he had in the strain description that this was found from bag seed from haight ashbury. I’ll never forget this strain because it was so stunning. I just checked and he’s still got it. Not sure if you can figure out how to pull up his old web description of it, but I promise you it’s the real deal. Maybe email him. Good luck dude, signed up here just to reply to you lol

Hey man I really appreciate the tip. I ordered 10 seeds! Looking at the description, it does really look similar to what I bought in that park.

No idea bud. I just distinctively remember his description stating it was from the best bud he ever smoked and it was from that area and found in bag seed. I loved the story and ran it.

At that time I was also growing garlic bud from Dutch passion, Cali O from sensi, and Diesel from Soma.

This was better than all with garlic bud being close behind in a different way. Garlic had popcorn buds with less internode spacing.

Hashberry was large colas, afghani leaning with maybe some packi due to the hashy smell and lavender coloration. Most finished with a golden lavender color. Definitely high quality and crushes modern day bullshit. The lavender could have presented due to temp. Was cold in that basement.

Lost her due to a neighbor getting wind of the grow due to that garlic bud reeking like RKS. Wasn’t legal in Chicago back then, got paranoid and killed the grow. This was with double charcoal filters mind you.

Good old days. Found a lead on that old garlic bud, been thinking of running her again. But way into sativa racy highs these days.

Well I’m going based on memory so it’s a bit fuzzy. This pheno was skunky though. From stem rub to finish. At the time there was a lot like that so wasn’t overly impressed on smell. It was the structure that blew me away on the garlic. And honestly I can relate to Sam talking about breeding out that skunk smell. In the context of that plant which was not marketed as skunk even got the neighbors attention.
Sure thing man. You'll see photos here soon : Grow Journal
Sweet. Trying to figure out how to find that old description on the interwebs lol

Dude I found the old description! So cool.

Here ya go:

A short history of Hashberry
In the late 1980’s we were in San Francisco and ran into a middle-aged hippie, in Haight-Ashbury, the “center of the universe” during the psychedelic flower power movement. He was driving a purple van with orange-red coloured curtains and just on his way to the Rainbow Gathering. After a friendly chat he gave us a bag of seeded weed and disappeared. We rolled a joint right then and there and walked down the street. The only thing was, that we couldn’t feel our feet anymore - we were flying! From these seeded Indica buds we developed over the years the genetic base for the mother of Hashberry. She was crossed with a special male (J7) that is part of the landrace hybrids we use in our Sadhu lineage (but not identical with the parents for Sadhu). Hashberry is not only named after the unique aroma and resiny buds, but is also derived from the initials of the famous neighbourhood Haight-Ashbury where we were fortunate to collect these special Californian seeds.

It was right on his page. Here's the other details:

Hashberry
High Times "Strain of the Year"

Type:
mostly indica
Genetics:
North India (Kashmir)
Cultivation:
indoor/outdoor/greenhouse
THC:
18.5%, CBD: 0,35%
High:
The classic chill-out weed. An expansive indica stone with a powerful high that sets in with the first lungfull of smoke. The buzz is first light headed and very balanced before switching to a stronger narcotic phase towards the end of your flight.
Aroma:
Fruity-berry, blackcurrant jam, hashy.
Medical use:
Hashberry shows medical potential against anxiety and sleep disorders; it can provide calming effects for moderate pain relief (may not aid against severe pain). Popular strain for cooking and baking and a favourite among caregivers for a wide variety of medical uses.

I do not remember smelling any weed that smelled like cough syrup (mediciny cherry undertone) from back in the day during the 90s and early 2000s. I actually had a flashback of the smell of weed of old school weed while driving to the dispensary just now. I was thinking about the smell of weed in the dispensaries nowadays and trying to contrast that with the smells of yesteryears. The standard marijuana smells was the commercial/cest/schwag weed. There was the low grade and the cartel mids usually from Mexico. Grown in large batches and it looked like it was compressed together like hay. Usually very dark green in color but sometimes even brown. Often had seeds in it. This was the standard marijuana smell from back in the day. Very kind of natural, woodsy, non-chemical, non petroleum, non-gassy smell. But stunk like regular standard marijuana but I guess common marijuana? I'd imagine most of the weed from the 60s and 70s also smelled like this. The weed from Haight Ashbury was typical standard "kind" bud northern cali/humboldt. Earthy, piny, maybe a little bit lemony? No real fruit smells, just more like a tasty palatable pine forest smell. The southern cali "chronic" was more skunky pungent kind of smell. Both had similar colors. More lime green than just green. No gassy smell. No root beer smells or licorice. Either skunky, dank, and piny. No fruit.
