Closed environment agriculture

Or CEA) Is anyone on RIU using this method? If not, you might consider switching, especially the big boys and girls. I've used in and out vents for a long time, and in my opinion, they are out-dated technology. You can't control your environment using intake of the outside air as reliably and as efficiantly as you can with a closed loop system. A/C and Co2 and a dehumidifier is all you need. 75*-78* daytime, 70* nighttime. 1500-1800 ppm Co2(daytime of course) ,40% humidity (constant.)

so is this a retorical question? i'm sure you must know the answer.

i've heard of 'sealed' rooms and 'perfect' rooms, but never Closed Environment Agriculture... so i guess i'll have to be checking out those links you provided just to find out who thought up that name.

i'm sure you aren't alone.

(EDIT) the second article would have you combating the heat produced by several 1000w bulbs w/a 20,000 btu air conditioner. you can still have a 'closed loop' system with vented lights. Just draw fresh air from outside and exhaust it back outside. this air never really enters the grow room proper... and will eliminate the need for a massive air conditioner. fans are much cheaper to run (in venting the lights) than trying to cool the entire room with a.c. while several HID's are heating it up.

I use vented shades and A/C, when air is taken in, you can't control the humidity very easily. In Norcal during the wet times of year this is very difficult to do.while you are enriching the room with Co2, vented shade or not, the room still heats up, my room would go up to 87* when the out-vents shut off for Co2. and in the summer..vents are no good for me.

so when 'out-vents' shut off during the co2 release... are you no longer venting your lights? if you pull from outside (directly into the hoods) and release back to the outside (directly from the hoods)... the lights would be vented whenever they are on.

and sorry to be kind of a jerk on my first post, i get moody sometimes.

but anyway... i've heard that temps up to 90 degrees are no big deal when you have supplemental co2 in that range. i've also heard that 75 should still be maintained... who knows what to beleive. i havn't tried it myself. i envy persons able to use co2 in a closed environment... but i have a 'pack of dogs' that live inside, i'm guessing that i already have a natural amount of supplemental co2 :D

Yeah the light venting would remain on but it's the moisture from outside that I couldn't control, I've got complete control now.

I'm looking into doing this, but having trouble w/exactly what type of AC to use and
how to do it relatively affordably. Plain old AC vents heat outside, which'd take the
CO2 w/it. I've read of a "split" AC that exchanges the air w/out venting outside. Any
One know the skinny?
