Yes it can be done. I've done it for years. It can work well (100%) but depends on several variables. 1) Type of plant, some root better than others. 2) Type of soil, the spongy seed-starter type soil works better than heavy clay or sandy. 3) Your water, I use tap water that's set for a few day, or bottled water if I happen to have some. The procedure is identical to using hydro (which I've never done)

You'll need a pot with really really moist soil, almost soup-like and something clear to cover it, like a soda bottle.
Take your cutting, immediately place in water. Trim the tips off your leaves (you don't need many leaves at this stage). Slice the stem at an angle and dip in your rooting hormone (helps but not necessary). Insert in your soil and squish out any air from around the stem. Mist both your cutting and the inside of your cover. Place your cover on top and seal it with tape.
Remove the cover while you're smoking a bowl every few days and mist again.
It can take as little as 2 weeks or up to 4 or 5. As long as they don't rot don't give up on it.
