Cloning.

How late in flower can you take a clone? Can you do it with a bud?
I've taken clones as late as week 9 anything later imo your best to air layer or you can re veg a few airy buds on the plant or the little suckers you get late in flower are good for re vegging on the plant.

I cut this one in the 5th week 12-12.

The mother is nearly done flowering the clone was cut 5 wks ago.

I just wet the coco with water, to try and keep as much air in the coco I stand the pots in a saucer of water and let capillary wet them or wet the coco before potting it.

Well, I am happy so far with the Clone-King.
"This" Morning after is all LIFE and not the total Death twice before.

I think I just can't use the CFL light rack in the "Spring." Colder Wintry weather sure and it's excellent. Now that I think of it I have never used the CFL in the warm weather in small soace. My Bad.
The light rack was too close for as warm as it is now. These plants do not recover from a lack of water and too hot / strong light all that easy.

So I am breathing better this morning. I need these plants to survive.

None of them look to be dying.

People who are shy about spending the money for an oxycloner don't realize it's not just for cannabis.
Once you have it, every plant in nature is yours, if you want it.
The guy down the street have an exceptional azalea? take a clone, pop it in the cloner, and you have it too.
The courthouse have a brilliant red maple? well, snip snip, you do too!!
It opens a whole new world for plant happy people.
I have a Mulberry I would like to make into hedges. Guinea Pigs can eat the leaves.
So you say I can use the cloner to root those cuts. That made my day. I hadn't thought of that.

I sure can't use the CFLs and Rapid rooter domed tray when it gets to be 60-ish ambient air temperature. I learned that the hard way.
Now that CFL light rack and the domed tray in winter well that is a yes.

I think you’ll find the clone king is much better than a domed tray; you’ll get roots in a week or so. Your CFLs should work well; fluorescents are like the best spectrum for rooting cuts.
If you ever have trouble keeping water temps low inside the cloner consider putting it on a recycle timer set to something like 1 min on 1 min off. Keeps the pump from going 24/7 thereby keeping the water at ambient room temperature. Also prolongs the life of your pump and helps prevent stem rot.

Use landscape staples or bend galvanized or stainless rod to stake mulberry branches to the ground. Will root if solidly touching. A mullberry is very invasive. Cuttings in any moisture trapping container with damp medium will root. Are you sure you want mullberries. They are permanent and don't die easy. Often growing to massive trees.

Well I have lived with them in all the happy places.
This is a happy place and I do like them.
So yeah I think so. I have a lot of yard to do something with and one almost murdered Mulberry behind the shop. It looks like someone tried to kill it at some point and failed.

I want Black mulberry so bad.......
but I have nowhere the roots would not wreck havoc.
Mulberry takes over the ground.
Take your cuttings in june or july, or when the new growth is still green, before it gets woody. All hard wood cuttings need to be new seasonal growth.
You will have good results, most likely. :)

I just looked this up

Is it simply a tote with holes in the lid and an aquarium air pump? Or am I missing something

Yeah.. Not missing I do not think. It's just ready-made.

My Clone-King is a well made unit that is made with a "plant Pot", a regular water pump and PVC type pipes with spray ends.
The lid fits nicely and the hole plugs are nice and tight. It's ready-made. It is something I could have made myself but I didn't have to this time.

Now my automatic compost sifter will be made out of an old washer and a dryer and I will build that.

The nesting lid makes it leak proof and the inserts have been stamped into the plastic, so they have a little "nest" if that makes sense. You don't need to try and fit a collar in just right, or use netpots so you don't have issues.

I've made my own, some people love 'em and I do enjoy DIY'ing shit, I just found DIY options leaked, or the lid was so tight it was annoying to remove. I couldn't find a container that provided a happy medium.

Parts, if you need everything, is like $60. Buying a prebuilt is definitely a better option IMO for a couple $ more.

Personally I got all the shit to make 50 of 'em and I'd still go and buy a premade unit if I was going the aero/bubble cloner route again. I'm only looking at cloners that can be top rack dishwashered right now. There's a couple out there. My hands are jacked up I can't be scrubbin shit anymore, I need everything to be easy to clean.

Yeah I thought the CFLs would do fine but either the cuts went into shock from lack of water, excess heat or both but, whatever I was doing I needed to knock it off right then and there. Two trays dead and solo cups with soil dead. Cuts in water by the window? Stayed alive. Cooler? Less light? plenty of water? Could be all of the above.
So it's not a bad thing to have more than one choice on how to clone. Winter? I'll get out the CFLs. Warm Spring? Clone-King gets the business I guess.

Thanks for taking the time to share that info. It looks like a simple littte project but those can cause the biggest headache. I'm in the market to clone for the first time. Just looking for the cheapest route, that works

I've had success with taking soil/coco in a solo cup and putting a zip lock over it. Simple and super cheap. If it's green and the stems mold free you're good. If I am going for 1 clone to keep the strain alive I usually take about 4-5 snips to be sure one roots. If you're not going to clone monthly/weekly don't buy cloning specific stuff IMHO.

I'm taking 20+ cuts a month, throwing 90% out lol. So if you need plants they are in my garbage :)

FWIW I've never used any sort of root stimulator or rooting gel/clone specific nutrients. I take my base 2 part nutrient at .6 EC - .8 EC pH'ed accordingly and always have roots in 2 weeks. Some weird strains will take 3 sometimes.

It's a purpose built cloner.
You can fool around and spend more to build a home made version, or simply put out the cash for a lifetime unit.

I have a 100% clone ratio for the last 10 years. Take it for what it's worth.

I'm pretty close to that in rockwool in the grodan trays with a heat-mat. I'll have a couple fail here and there but it's usually something I did, usually pushing a stem through the side of a cube and not realizing it. Last run even those rooted.

I turned the light up. Perhaps I was a bit afraid to have the light brighter at first but they are alive and a bit better light could stimulate rooting.
