cloning while in flower

I had 10 Masterkush seed that were 4 years old. Feminized. I ended up with 2 plants. One is struggling Very badly. The other is strong as hell.

I read a book on growing and it showed a plant cloned 10 days after it was put into flower. The veg cycle was short to keep plants small.

I am considering this because I would like to keep this strain if at all possible. What are some of the pros and cons of cloning after plant has started flowering?

i dont know of the pro's and con's but i know it is not recommended to clone while flowering. It CAN be done within the first week or two (the sooner the better) but i think the success rate would be hindered the longer you wait.
the only other problem with cloning during flowering that i can think of is the stress it causes the plant. stress during veg is not a big deal because you dont have to worry about it changing to a hermie, but if you put a flowering plant through too much stress it will grow male flowers as its own defense to re-populate. It also stunts the growth which causes the flowering time to be extended from "non-stessful condition"

After I posted I searched the Grow faq's and they address this issue. I got the idea from a SeeMoreBuds book called " buds for less".

I have taken my clones from flowering plants many times at about week two, and after many many crops I have never gotten a Hermie.
I think to many people are Hermiephobic... lol
If you watch Arjans videos from Greenhouse seed company, on how, at week 2-3 he clips off all the lower branches of the plants. Any branch that is lower then the middle point of the plant gets clipped off. Now seeing as he has more cannibus awards then anyone in the world, I would think he knows what he is doing.

The lower branches I clip off is what I use for my clones. I just did 20 clones, I got 18 to root. I would think that is a pretty good success rate, and also I know for sure they are females.

A few crops ago, I accidently snapped off a little 2 inch bud. I was bummed. But then I thought, hell then see what happens so I snipped it at 45 degrees, and stuffed in in a rapid rooter, stuck it under the faucet, then put it under a glass on the counter. I only checked on it every 2-3 days. 11 days later it had roots. Here is where it gets weird. The new growth looked like single leaf spinach. This went on for about two weeks, then the new growth was normal. The new plant produced some good trainwreck.

Here are two photos of that plant. Look at the second photo, you can still see the original bud. look closely at some of the lower older growth. You will see the single leafs.

I had no problem cloning from a flowering mom. Might have been dumb luck but she took. I used root tone and soil, put it into a box with a few cfl's and she took. Gonna do it again with a vegging, hell THAT vegging girl cause shes awesome!

Thanks for the replies guys. I have seen some of the Greenhouse seeds video's and noticed the part with the bottom branches trimmed off. Also I see lots of plants on here that are pruned and trimmed that way. I am gonna try it myself.

One thing that I notice is that there is more than one way of doing things. Old folks would say " There is more than one way to skin a cat!!"

One of the post I remember in my head was where someone said, it is just a plant and it has been here longer than any of us. I like that. It seems that the greatest victory for the pissing contest that goes on here is who can yield the most. All these little tricks, trims, topping and so forth are all good. But the key to remember it is a plant and will outlive us.
