im thinking about making a cheap clone machine, it will be in a 5 gallon resivoir but when using this method and just letting the stems hang in the water do i use rooting harmone to dip the stems in frist? if now then do i add anything to the water to stimulate roots or just water and if so what do i add?

yeah u can score and slit the stem slightly so roots come from the smal incisions and dip in root powder then hang it in the water it works.theres a vid on youtube and a guy does it like i described i'll try and find it again

id use powder so it sticks in the small cuts and scrapes then shake off the exess gel would just wash off

i myself cant get a single cutting to root. towhere as the guy i get my clones from has roots breaching the bottom in 5 days. i dont get it, i pull mine out after a week or so cause im curious and well it just looks water logged as fuck. this guys using an oldschool as clone dome gel and an incandescent under neath his dome for heat. to where as i ordered a jump start clone box and the heating mat beneath it. and well still. nothing.
HELP!?!?!?!?!
and yes my cutting are thicker than his for the most part. i wait until ones think enough. its just pissing me off his are small stems

Why don't you just use the little 1" (or whatever size they are) hanging pots with the rockwool starter cubes and neoprene collars? Within several days roots are blasting out of the cubes from all sides and you can drop them in whatever medium you want. Just like the overpriced "cloning machines" they sell.

I get better results using smaller cuttings rather than large cuttings, they seem to root quicker. I always ad Clonex Solution to my cloner water also and skip dipping the cutting due to it washing off. I get roots within about 10-12 days max with about an 80% success rate. My pump runs 15 on and 15 off during the cycle until I remove the clones. Good luck.

yea i use a cheap aeroponic cloner and i use tap water, smaller clones, no gel or solution, and i scrape the stems a bit. 15 min on 30 min off . roots in 5-6 days. 4-6 inches of roots by ten days and ready to transplant. 100% success rate.

heres my problem.
exactly what you just told me.
which is exactly where i started. and advanced to other things everyone else told me. i dont get it honestly. take a strong cut. as soon as its cut i dip it in clonex to keep air out, i split the end dip it again to keep air out then trim extra leaves. snip the tips of all the leaves making them even. dip it again for 10 seconds and put it in the rockwool 12 days later the fucking thing looked swollen and pruned like if i sat in water for 2 hours and wrinkled up. but it held its leaves up this entire time. as to where they didnt drop dead.
i just dont get it.
ive tried a drop or two of lonex in my rockwool hoe as well.
i tried jiffy petes soil starters rockwool.

Make sure the medium has good contact with the stem. I use rapid rooters. Keep em most not wet. some use string or rubber bands around em to ensure contact. I use a dome and heat mat with the tray. I put a glass of water with an air stone in it to keep the humidity up and add air. Under one cfl 24/7. I use Clonex gel. Some rapid start and superthrive..very small amount. Keep everything as clean as possible.
