cloning question

Hi Guys
I'm a long time grower about to try cloning for the first time. I have a small 2x2x5 tent dedicated for just this purpose fitted with a quantum board LED for light and early veg growing. My question is: If I take cuttings from the mother plant just before flipping the mother to 12/12, how do I keep the cuttings/clones going for the 2 month duration that the mother plant will be in flower mode (in her separate tent)? Isn't that too long because usually I veg for only a month?

Thanks

i'm pretty new to cloning myself, but i went from solo cup to 1 gallon for quite awhile then into flowering.takes me about two weeks to root cuts, then into solo cups for a week or two then into gallons for however long.potted up into 3gallon pots, then flipped 12/12.

love the avi,btw

Once they rooted ( about two weeks) you can pot them up and start to monster crop them. That will slow the growth down a little and you will end up with bushier plants.

you cut the stick at a 45 degree angle, gently scrape with a clean scalpel/razor, dip in Clonex and
poke into a moist rooting cube/cup of pro mix and dome until rooted. Mine dont need more water until
roots are showing in the cup, 5-8 days under the same t5 light veg plants are growing under in 24/7 light.

cheers!

Less light power for cloning.
I do all my cloning in indirect lighting - NO bulb or light source above them!
This allows slower to root clones to develop before the plant eats it's self to survive. In others words, the more direct light you have. The more the cutting attempts to grow, over setting roots...

Hell, I'll take some woody clones from lanky strains to slow them down and fill out more.
I'll take these 8 inch + cuttings and simply scrape the sides a bit, and put the cut stem in plain water. They root. I place them in solo cups of my potting soil and off they go too.

Now on the timing. How tall are your plants at the flip? I run from clone to flip and clone from the plants being flipped to do the perpetual running of that strain...

Thanks for the info. I will need to keep the cuttings in the separate tent for a minimum of 2 months till the flowering tent has vacancy. How did yours work out for you?

I flip the light at about 24-30" in height which is what the mother plant is currently

care for them like a plant, keep them green and top/trim them up to the size you can provide for best. you can hack tops off weekly
or lollipop/skirt too, it can all grow back with a vengeance.

Mmm, ok then, I see your point.

Top and train to slow them down is going to be in your job description now.

Another thought, would be to keep them in the solo to the next pot, to the next pot, as long as you can. By up potting slower, you'll reduce the speed of the plants growth too. Keep it feed properly but, not too much. If a micro def or an N def gets to be developing and feeding properly is not working - By all means = UP POT to the next size pot!
Feeding to keep them showing healthy and not feeding "with a purpose" (Pushing) will slow them down a bit....You know, like feeding a "mother" plant...

I use all three ways from time to time. Mostly together too.

Good luck

Another thought Ive been considering is not taking the cuttings till a few weeks after flipping the mother. I realize the clone will have to spend time reverting back to veg stage, but I do need slow growth at this point anyway. Any thoughts on that idea?

You could build something like this for a whopping 45 bucks. Holds 15 1ga pots. Can do easily 100 cuts in it if you do them small like I do. You can pretty much tell what it is but if you or anyone wants specs, and where I got everything hit me up.

Not my favorite way to clone.
Can be done, and many do that. With just fine results.
"I" don't care for the stress the cutting takes to revert....In reality, some strains won't actually revert back all the way. I know, hard to wrap heads around that but, Ed and others agree on that.
You'll get shorter plants with shorter node spacing. They take longer to veg in my opinion....

You can use that trick on plants you set outdoors. Set them to bloom for a week. Time that to make the outdoor lighting be a cpl of weeks from supporting bloom yet. Set the plant out.
She'll start to revert, then the light makes it to blooming times and the plant will then burst back into bloom. She will have reduced stretch and increase total bud sizes by length (reduced nodal spacing).

Kinda cool way to make nice patio plants or deck plants..

Read what I said about lighting clones in my first post in this thread.

On a second read i see your question more clear. You pot train them for the two months. Its a timing thing. Theres plenty of things you can do to slow its growth till its ready. Figure your strains growth curve and pot train them is all the advice I can give. Youll get it down.

Also dont cut monster clones. I cut little guys to help with the time. If you do it right youcan shave a week or so off your grow in main tent if you start small and train right while they wait
