Cloning Question

Just wanted to know if it's ok to keep taking clones from clones and so on. Does this weaken the strain as it is continued. This is what I have been doing. Now I have not noticed any issues thus far but just wanted opinions from people who maybe breed or know more about this area. Thanks.

Some people say that it does and others say no.
I don't think it weakens the strain so much as it might make the thc content less.
I have been cloning ever since I've been growing,5+ years and have cloned countless times.
I have not noticed any weakening of the strain or the thc content.
This is an area that you would have to experience yourself and draw your own conclusions.
Peace

I think the ones that say it weakens or lessons the vigor of a strain to be cloned over and over....aren't very good cloners...
Personally I file that MJ Myth with all the others...
I clone 10 - 30 per month....
Using the same strain, cloning the daughters great great grand daughter... plants better than ever....
You see, I only clone the biggest fastest of my plants, so if any thing.... my strain keeps getting better and faster....

Didn't things so. A clone is an exact replica. So everything should continue has it was and will be. Have to say mine all look good so just thought .... Do I purchase seeds to get some new strains or continue as is.

Hi Grasshopper,
It's nice to have a few clone Mommas of different strains. Plus switching weed occasionally helps minimize tolerance. Variety is the spice of life...

I have my regular keepers. I've had some of them for more than a few years now. I've maybe cycled the mom's 3 or 4 times by now. I haven't noticed any difference in anything. I think Sand said it perfect; Anyone who says they diminish just aren't very good cloners.

As always I cycle new stuff in and out. If i stumble across something I like, maybe it replaces something or gets added to the (small) mom room, maybe not.

Having those keepers/moms around is just like keeping a stock portfolio. Diversify.

Thanks guys... I would really like to buy some seeds. I just want to experience how a different strain looks and grows. I have been using this Kush strain and would like to offer up some different smoke you know. I am just using Cfls at the moment and am also considering upgrading to a 600w hps. I have 4 in flower now. And they may be ready around Xmas. After that I will perhaps do so. It's a long winter here in Ontario. Already had our first snow storm for shit sakes.

cloning is and can be done at any stage or time of life as long as the plant is healthy enough to cut on.. that being said the more you clone a plant in veg the stronger the plant will become..cloning a single plant will only give you the genetics of that plant..this is why its called a mother plant..now if you take a clone from the original plant then take that clone and veg it out and clone it then you have a second generation plant and so forth and so on.. but the ever so popular question is as long as the plant is healthy then you and the clones are ok to do what you need..even in flower they can be cloned..it just takes longer to root..KEEP ON GROWIN

Do u think itd be better to keep the one mother going and continue to prune and take clones from it? Or, keep making a new mother every so often?

Sand, id like ur opinion also, along with anyone else with experience with this.

Thx for any help

i personally keep a mother until it gets to big to control in my space then i take her and flower her out and i usually get a hefty harvest from her after she has been in vegg for about 4-5 months and then all the extra places that form after the cloning takes place.. you end up with a bush..but beware when you do flower out the bush she will need room to grow.. i sometimes wait until the spring so i can just put all my mothers outside and start fresh with a new stronger clone for a new mother... but everyone does things there own way just make sure your comfortable with the process that you like and what works for your space..

Yeah thats what I a m doing. Now I have cloned into flower but not too far in and then it stays in veg for a while. Currently I have too many damn plants. And yet don't want to part with them!! Need to slow down
