Cloning question

Hey guys, I checked the grow guide and cloning guide, and I hope I'm not asking a question that's been covered.

My question is the following:
After topping my plant a few weeks ago, the main cola has since split into two. All the growth hormone has clearly gone to one more than the other, and to control for height and to share my plant with a friend I would like to top the "super" cola that has grown up almost 3 inches higher than the other. It's super thick, and I'm thinking about topping it back down to where it originally split off since it is SO much taller than the other, topping it at a flat angle like I did when I originally topped it then re-cutting the removed portion at a 45 degree angle so it will root right. Is this ill advised? I wish I had a picture but I'm actually away from it at the moment, as its in a legal-to-grow location and I'm not right now.

For short summation: I topped it a while ago, I want to remove almost all of one of the split cola since it has grown so much longer than the other to control for height and because I imagine it would clone fantastically since it has so much growth hormone in it. Good/bad?

I usually try to just take clones from the bottom, as height isn't an issue for me.
That being said, you may try tieing that bad girl down and pulling a different branch that has 4 nodes, as that one would prob have awesome bud.
