Cloning Question

Just wondering how other experienced growers go about cloning. I have a few rooting into larger rockwool right now, about ready to go into the reserviors. I'm wondering if taking taller cuttings (say, 6-8 inches, with 3 or 4 sets of leaves on the cutting) will speed up my cloning-to-harvest process.

you only need the growing tip and one half of a fan leaf. more foliage will slow down rooting because of the loss of water via transpiration through the larger surface area of the leaves.

I agree, more to feed. Go with small ones with less leaves. They root faster and will grow to that size in no time.:peace:

Yeah I have been misting them twice daily to avoid water loss. So how long does it take for them to grow to a normal sized plant? Should I wait until they totally root out of their cubes before putting them in reservoirs under the HID?

I like the way Al B. fuct does it. BIG cutting into a rockwool cube. Once the roots are in place the plant is all ready 8" tall. So mabe a few more days for the roots to take place but you are saving time with the bigger clone.

Hope this helps

Bigger cuttings produce bigger plants faster. Especially if you plan on 0 veg time.

I tried it with my White Rhino and got some pretty big plants damned quick. No harder to clone than smaller cuttings as far as I experienced. Actually my bigger cuttings rooted faster than the smaller normal sized clones in the same hydrohut.

This was a 9" slip.

o.k. thanks, guys. So, if I'm in my 3rd week of flowering, would it be too late to take larger cuttings at this time? I mean, would it stress my mothers? I don't wanna freak them into hermes. I know clones take the age of the mothers they're cut from, so should I put them under the HID with their moms or let them root under the flouros in the humidity dome for a bit first?
