i clone in rockwool and wait until they are visible on the outside of the plug. I would say this is best since the roots will be big enough to supply water under a HID and also so the plant can hold its own to infection and what not

i also use rockwool and i wait untill the roots come out before planting and shes growing vigerously!

i use water and a cup wait until there about an inch or 2 long then plant

i think that the general rule of thumb is if the clone can handle being out of the humidity dome and is able to uptake its nutrients and water through the roots then its ready to grow!

the best scenario would be to put them under fluoro's to veg a lil bit before throwing them under HID lights.

just be careful. plants that small are susceptible to drying out easily under HID's
