Cloning for sex?

What is this and how is it done?

the idea is, you take a clone from a plant and let it root. once it has rooted you put it into a 12/12 lighting cycle. just the clones not the parent plant. the parent plant says in veg. once the clones show their sex, you'll know what sex the parent plant is.

edit-I've heard of people using a leaf as well to force sex. Something with darkness?

I actually did this, cloned all my plants, labeled them etc. I started to root them and get the process going. However before they even got to flower the parents all showed pre flowers . I just chucked the males, and cloned the fems a few more times.
