clones being crushed?

pretty simple question or questions lol
im using one of those containers you get with the cakes that are in it from markets to use as the dome
the only thing is when the clones are in them the dome kinda pushes down on the clones
not enough where the stems are bending but the top leaves are being pushed down
is this ok? or do i need to find a bigger one?
i never have luck with cloning this way
i do put em under a 40w cfl
they just never live
what am i doing wrong?

couldn't you keep them in a pan type thing and keep a little water in it to keep them from drying out.. I tried rw years ago and didn't have much luck with it

Hey, I did EXACTLY what you did, used a cake container from a supermarket, the tops of the clones were pushed down. My clones kept growing, and the tops of the stems actually bent when they hit the top of the dome, and I used NO cloning gel, every single clone rooted. It took 2 weeks for them to root, but it worked out and they just kept growing normally when I took them outta the dome. A little bend in the stem didn't hurt 'em at all, not one bit. So with your dome only pressing on the leaves, I wouldn't worry too much. Just let 'em get air once a day at least, and you should be fine. Like I said, I did this exact same thing and it worked out fine.

what did u do for grow medium and lighting?

I didn't spray them once....when I first put the lid on I sprayed the inside of the lid, but that was it. Under my normal 18/6 veg room timing. I opened it up for the first time after 3 days, and yeah, like once a day after that.

I bet you're ok. I grow huge plants and do alot of supercropping and training.

If its too humid you'll start to see mold, if it isn't humid enough the plants will sag. Usually once they establish themselves with a nice set of roots you can get rid of the dome and they can take in their water that way. Up until then you're foliar feeding so you want the leaves to absorb as much as possible and keep the humidity up.

Watch out for adding more stress to the bends in the leaves if you let them bend on over. The plant will adjust and I've never seen one break from growing into something but I have seen stems and branches break because they were at about all the bend they could take and I put too much pressure on them, mostly lifting up the bucket to check the res underneath and I didn't notice an errant branch under a cord or temporarily tied up for training to something else.

Listen to the plants ;) they'll tell you what they need

Exactly what i was thinking , i wouldnt risk it get a new container.

new container > this one for sure.
I suppose I never considered it ince it hasn't happened to me yet, but you should watch for browning and squishyness on the leaves touching it if they do start to rot. Mine never have had a problem, but I use a propogation chamber thats 12 inches from the pan to the top and I usually cut clones that are too big for it. It also has 2 vents in the top that I leave open, and I open it manually twice a day if I can and blow on the plants.
If your stems turning yellow then the leaves aren't feeding it enough and the roots haven't established yet - or your stem is rotting already. pull gently on your plant, if it doesn't come out then its not the roots hopefully, but if it comes out of the rockwool easily check for browning or gunk where the stalk should be swelling to form roots. If the cells were damaged during the cut or exposed to air too long it'l rot your stalk, especially in rockwool and especially in high humidity. If its rotting, do your next cuttings without the dome and see how they go, you may just want to put your dome on overnight.

ive personally found out how shitty rot can rly get with my last batch of clones....i dont use a dome anymore lol. only for the 1st/2nd day...and i may not even do that next time. my rot was of the stem though :( so clones got fucked only had buot a 50% success rate this time around :(...but i had 12 clones root succesfully with no dome /30% humidity...they all had to be re-cut at the stem due to stemrot and they are all a bit shitty looking cept my 4 ak48's and all my bubblicicous look like hell but luckily atleast 12 survived out of abuot 30~
they will pull through.

I belive i kept my peat/perlite medium a bit to damp and the dome insured the rotting by not letting the soil mix dry out properly.

@doingfine , hit up the dollar stores around ur area..they always selling cheap plastic containers..be creative :P , that link fire_one_up sent you is perfect in my opinion.

on an added note , stay away from cloning in soil unless you really know what you are doing. lol. stem rot comes quick if stems are left to wet.also be sure to make the final 45 degree cut , under water to ensure their is no air bubble.
