Clone Success

I'm about to take clones from my plants for the first time, and I want to make sure that they have the best possible chance of succeeding. I've heard that putting clones in a dark place the first 12 to 24 hours after cutting them will increase my chances of having a favorable outcome. Is this true?

haven't heard that before.

Sterilize your knife/cutting tool, using heatmat to keep temperatures from going too low. Perfect amount of watering, a lot of things go into it!

DO NOT put your clones into darkness like that, it will make them flower, instead use low light (like 1 or 2 CFLs) for at least 18/6. AND I usually sterilize my siccors, razor blade and have my Jiffy pots, water and rooting powder ready to go..
First, take cuttings from the bottom of your mother plant, make sure the cutting has at least 4 nodes, and make the "cut" at a 45 degree angle. Then, I use a razor blade to make small 1/2 slices down the bottom of the stalk, 2 or 3 slices, this exposes the soft inner portion for better, faster roots. Then, stick that cutting into a cup of water with about an inch of water to get the bottom of the cutting wet, then dip into rooting powder and cover the "slices" you made. Poke a hole into the presoaked Jiffy pot and put stem into it and use a toothpick (or something clean) to cover the bottom of the stem up with the "soil" in the jiffy pot so the rooting powder is not exposed. Then, put into a Jiffy garden w/clear lid and set on a heating pad set for 70 degrees, and put a small fan blowing on it to make sure it will get humid in there....voila, roots in 7 to 9 days...works for me, good luck and welcome to RIU

Thanks for the reply and information, but I'm already aware of everything you mentioned. I'm still looking for an answer to my question. If I don't get any more replys, I'll probably go ahead and put the clones in a dark, warm, humid place. I certainly don't think it will be harmful, and it just might help, so why not?

do NOT go the darkness route after cutting, thats a flipping/flowering/sexting move. make your cut from the plant, dip in root hormone, then place in your preferred cloning growing item, RR cubes, RW, aero cloner, humidome, ect. i do 2-4" T8 6500k lights 24/7 and use an aero cloner, 78* heated water (basement grow), and an added air stone/bubbler for added o2. then after 2" nice growth root ball, straight into FFOF amended soil and under 18/6 600w veg lights.
