Clone rooting fail

What can cause this thing? They have been rooting for over 2 weeks for sure.

Looks lile a little rot.

Powder. And yea, some leaves seem to be bit slimy, so too much humidity in cloning room?

I've never used soil. Hydro cloning is easier, imo. You can see what's going on without pulling the roots up. I'm afraid I won't be much help other that saying gel works better, even in soil.

how does hydro cloning work, does it need some kind of system that keeps water flowing or what?

Looks like you didnt sterilize your tools and now the stem is diseased.

Are you using a heated mat? If not that is one suggestion. I use horticultural grade vermiculite. Scrape the stem, dip it in honey and into the vermiculite on the heated mat. They never droop. The vermiculite can be easily rinsed off to go in hydro or right into the soil when rooted.

I have found that taking the snip with a pair of good scissors and don't shave or trim anything is the best way(and the safest for some people). Sure there might be times I might snip a lower leaf off the snip but if it can be stuck in the rockwool leaf stem and all I'll do it. The roots grow from the bark. I use something pointy like a nail to make the hole in the cloning medium so I can easily insert the clone without touching the snip excessively. Just press the medium in lightly against the snips stalk after it is inserted. Take care not to touch the snips stalk.

When I use rockwool I use as small a piece as practical and I suspend it(after soaking it) by banking it with pea gravel. I make the hole in the rockwool, snip the clone, stick the butt end into a #2 rooting harmone tapping off the excess powder, stick the snip in the hole made for it in the rockwool, collapse the hole around the snip, fill the rockwool with more water, give the clone a light misting and close the so-called humidity dome.

For a single plant a humidity dome can be a gallon plastic jug with the top cut off. I punch small drain 1/8"-3/16" holes about one every 1/2" out the bottom from inside the jug because of the dits that form from boring through the plastic may cause pooling water. I make a small 1" hole at the side/base(at/above the gravel) of the jug for air. After the clone goes in the jug I put a piece of clear plastic over the cut opening made in the top of the jug and tie the clear plastic with a string etc. A forty watt daylight CLF will suffice. It may require additional spray watering in 5-7 days. The clear plastic poly top has to come off or the clone removed asap when the clone gets roots.

You may have better luck with a gel for your rooting hormone and a medium that allows more O2 to the root zone. Rockwool is a widely used, non-hydro/aero method to accomplish this, just remember to soak the cubes in 5.5ph solution for at least an hour and then vigorously shake most of the moisture out of each cube before use. Also, we've had better results when NOT inserting cuttings into the provided holes. Creating a small slit with a sanitized pointy object creates a snug fit and the manufacturers hole then provides more access for O2 to the new roots. Also, a visual window to monitor early progress.
