Clone from a clone from a clone...

Hi, has anyone cloned from a clone from a clone and repeated this process 20 or 30 times? Does it affect plant genes and health down the road? Is it a better option to have a 1st gen clone mother?

Thanks.

I do it all the time. I’ve got 1 strain that is in that 20-30 time range. The key is to keep them healthy . I haven’t noticed a difference in the strain over the last few years, except that I’m getting tired of smoking the same plant , but it’s too good to let go.

You might start seeing a shift in quality but the warning will be funky leaves etc. This I guess can happen from sub optimal care or damage during the taking of cuttings, infections are what not.

If you take plenty of cuttings and pick the healthiest looking ones while giving them the best environment they should be ok, people have done it for years. I do tend to think that even in the best situation they will slightly begin to fade over time. I mean if you compared a 30 gen cutting to a second gen of the same original mother you might see a noticeable difference in vigor and certainly structure.

I've never seen any official testing to say one way or the other so it's pretty much speculation on any decline in potency/yield (although it would be very small amounts most likely). Unless others have more info on it?.

I hear you on getting tired of the same strain. I grew Master Kush from the same cut for around four years. Just kept cloning and using a clone to make another mother. Excellent smoke but I got tired of it. Now I grow from seed. Different varieties every grow. I love the variety. Plus I don't have to deal with a mother and cloning.

To the OP. Yes you can keep cloning off of clones.
