Cleaning a humidifier

So the humidifier was not completely dry when I put it into storage. There’s some mold on the bottom. It’s ultrasonic so has those wee white bits.

Now I don’t want to damage the ultrasonic pad things. What can I use to clean? Would alcohol be ok or too harsh?

I used white vinegar, didn't seem to harm anything.

Nice! Wife has a load of that for cleaning, Will crack on with it today.

I got that pink mold (?) type of stuff in my ultrasonic humidifier, I rinsed everything in white vinegar, filled the bottom part with vinegar and let it sit for a couple of hours, it was fine for a couple of days, but pink stuff spread again. What I finally did was I filled it with half vinegar half water (probably less vinegar will work too, maybe 1/4 vinegar, 3/4 water) and let it run in the bathroom with bathroom fans on for a couple of hours. Since then mold never came back. Make sure to do it in a well ventilated area because vinegar smell can affect some people. Good luck!

I'll give that a try next time I need the humidifier. Maybe a table spoon of h202 per gallon on a regular basis?

Thanks for the information, just to clarify, the pink bacteria was growing in the tank of the humidifier, not the bathroom itself. I just ran the humidifier with vinegar in the bathroom for ventilation purposes.

I'm just thinking the pink stuff is probably the same bacteria found in showers.

Interesting I get the Pink bacteria turds in my toilet sometimes.

I put a tbsp each of isopropyl alcohol, and peroxide %3 directly in the humidifier with each fill. I clean mine once a month, and it's always spotless
