I'm following this thread also and looking forward to the results.

I'm not growing pot (have no problem with those that do) I'm growing fruit and veggies
and they need light also :)

Hi Chronikool

Are you going to still use strip lighting for your next grow ?

If yes...What have you learned about using strip lighting and what will you
change now that this one is completed ?

People like you who venture into the unknown like using LED strips for growing are pioneers !

Thanks !

Hey Rainer.

My little PC box is currently out of action and is plunged in darkness....but me and Alex have come up with a plan to use it as a breeding box when i have my cabinet grow in full swing and i want to change out my mothers.
Never done it before, but that wont halt my upwardz spiral of Godley macmanimusness...(?)! :D

What have i learned...hmmm....make sure that the strips are as flat as possible to a heatsink as you can be. Mine in places came away from the PC chassis and i noticed a bit of dimming in these areas. Maybe use a thermal paste/glue/gel as an extra to the adhesive that these strips come with.

I might also change out the 5050 LED's to 5630's. Bigger brighter light.

I am more then happy with the light spectrum used. I mean it worked....so the plant was happy. And as you know, LEDs are getting better all the time.

The PC box was perfect i think for the 2 x strips i had in there. They dont have the penetrating power of higher powered LED's...but i saturated the whole case with them...so it was never going to be an issue. :)

Hahahaha.....Pioneer! Thats nice of you to say....but i think you have the wrong guy. :)

Thanks for viewing and the comments...maybe i'll use this thread for my breeding project?

Thanks for the reply..appreciate it.

Good tip to lay the strips flat as possible to the heatsink with some thermal paste which will for sure help with the life of led which does cause dimming if not secure with some thermal paste.

Also thanks for the link to the newer 5630 strips .

Hmmm I think you and panneta were the first here to journal and try the LED strips so the pioneer remark stands :)

There might be other's but hey..if it's not a journal with pics it didn't happen..LOL

Thanks again !

Rainer! You inspired me. :)

I have decided to place 8 of my surplus clones into this thing and see what happens.

_MG_3632.jpg
At the top far left corner is a 'Pineapple Express'. And the two on the right hand side have been rooted for a couple of weeks. ('Purple haze' in top right and 'Acid' at lower right)

The rest are 'Acids'
They were showing minimal roots and/or bumps...so they get to be guniea pigs in the PC case of doom! :fire:

I will give them 18/6 veg time for a week...and then switch to 12/12.

Hmmmmm...could be a jungle in there...we shall see.

Idealy I would want about a 20cm high plant...maybe a bit of tying down.

If it getz to much....they can alwayz be shipped out. :)

Haha yeah...i think a few smaller bud sites on each plant will be the way to go about it....will probably make up for the lack of penetration on these strips.

Hoping for a gram or 2... :-P

1-2 grams total or per plant...Actually i dont really care. hahaha...i guess i have just really missed buds forming.... :) Soundz a bit weird huh?

Plus these were surplus and had to go somewhere or be thrown out...

DAMN! I was bored today! :-P

Day 3 of Transplant:

_MG_3637.jpg
Clones have taken to the transplant (from bubbler) with no troubles. Might do a 10 day 18/6 now.

A couple of the best looking ones. (both 'Acid')

I know you're going to really hate hearing this right after transplanting, but I have a suggestion to share with you....

I finished a tiny party cup grow (not in the comp, just for fun) of my own a while back. I found that one of my biggest problems was root binding (it was very noticeable when it was over and i examined the root mass) and drainage/water retention (both).

So my new party cup size container is old socks cut off at the heel and turned into tiny ghetto fabric pots. :D I hope it helps to alleviate it a little.

Thanks for your concern. :)

I have made them into hybrid air pots...so i dont belive in root binding anymore. (or maybe i dont want too! haha)

I also did the same on the mothers. Just drilled a bunch of holes higher up the pot. The mothers are currently in 2 litre pots. They are coming up 4 months old.

I do like the socks idea though. :)
