Chopping the main colas?

For a better yield, would it work to chop off the main colas and then let the smaller buds grow for 2-3 weeks? I noticed in my previous grow that the lower buds can look very healthy and with white/clear trichomes.

Maybe the stress will be too big and just kill the plant / or make it turn into a hermie?

It won't kill it, nor should it make it hermie.

If you are going to harvest the main bud with the hopes of growing larger buds else where, by all means to ahead. Let me know how it turns out. Just don't harvest it prematurely; that would just be a waste especially if you are only going to get 2-3 more weeks of growth out of the buds. Just be sure to keep giving it N so the remaining leaves will stay green and healthy.

Yep it works you will be surprised. Take of the main colas when they are done and lower your lights a little. The smaller popcorn buds will fill out a little more. But the trick is like Nietzsche said keep the plant healthy and green as much as you can.

If you don't over stretch your lighting penetration then fluffy popcorn buds don't occur.

250w no bigger than 1.5ft plants
400w no bigger than 2.5ft plants
600w no bigger than 3.5ft plants
1000w no bigger than 4.5ft plants.

By keeping your plants within this height restriction all your buds should mature at pretty much the same rate allowing for a single harvest time.

It is possible though to cut colas and allow the rest to ripen.

You may not see much swelling from those buds left on but they will mature and ripen.

I have done this before, and for me it didn't help at all.
The smaller buds matured more, but they did not grow at all. They were the same size with just more amber trichs on them.

Thanks for the replies, i think i will skip it since i don't think they will grow much bigger, like althor replied... And there will also be the problem with flushing, last two weeks the leaves should get yellow etc. I have the lamps very close so no problems there :)

I harvest in stages. In almost ALL forms of gardening ( with the exception of fruits and vegies that continue to ripen off the vine.) you harvest in stages, Would you cut a whole tomato plant because you had 1 or 2 red ripe ones? Hell No Canna is the same way (IMO).

yeah you might be right about that haha, even if the buds wont grow much larger at least they will ripen :)

You'd see better turnover if you got the plants out of the room and replaced them with new plants to grow.

More amber trichs would be a bad thing.

It's also much better for the drying & curing process if you leave the plant whole during drying (minus fan leaves if you desire).
