Why would your flowering plant be getting 18 hours of light?

In my opinion, it's best to chop at the end of the dark period, before the lights come back on. Terpenes are volatile compounds, and volatile compounds evaporate more quickly at higher temperatures. These compounds tend to build up during the cooler dark period and evaporate off more quickly as soon as the light comes on and the temp rises. Ever notice how your plants smell the stinkyest right when the light kicks on? You are smelling the terpenes that volatilize when the temp starts rising. By chopping at the end of the dark period, you can prevent at least some evaporation.

Plants convert some of the sugar they generate during the day into starch to store. This leaf starch is remobilized back to sugars during the night and consumed until the lights come back on.

If you chop after an 18h lights on period, the leaves will still have all that starch stored, but if you chop it after the dark period, most of it will have been remobilized as sugar which is consumed.

In short, harvesting after a dark period should give you a better cure.

Smoking starch sucks.

3-5 damn?! I assume you don't water during this time? And do you cut out any fan leaves before? Seems like a recipe for disease otherwise.

I think people get this confused, when you really do something like this is for staggered harvests on the same plant. Your supposed to just cut and continue to feed/lighting letting the lower buds grow. You could also just cut your top buds and let the stems sit in a cup of water for their flush.

When I first started a few years ago I did the 3 days darkness thing to one plant. The theory was the plant increased resin production in a panic and used that little extra umph out of the roots with the bonus of starting the drying process. I didn't notice a difference. The plant just looked nasty and the lower fan leaves where starting to break down into that proto-slime substance. It also took just as long to dry "after" cutting. In the end, I found no benefit, Harvesting the standard way is best.

Its always fun to try out tips, tricks and shortcuts. Even if most of them are bunk...we all are trying to cut as many corners as we can after all. :joint:

Ahhhh... Makes sense. You through me off by saying you are growing white widow. True WW is not auto flowering, so what you have is a reworked auto flowering variation of WW.

What the fuck are you talking about?
what you said doesnt pertain to the quote at all...
he doesnt leave the plant in the dark to stagger his harvesting and i have left my plants in the dark for 3 days and my leafs didnt "break down into ""proto-slime""

i dont think you know what you're talking about, no offence

A POINTLESS COMMENT, i was not asking if people leave the plant sat in the dark for several days.
Rude as FUCK.
if someone comes by your thread and tries to help you by giving advice you dont tell them their comment is pointless.
no one will want to help you if you're a fkn dick to them.
im for sure not going to help you.

By morning, do yu mean morning to them, or actual AM?
Morning, as in like an actual analog "AM" type of morning, occurring just as the sun comes up. Like when is was dark, and then begins to get not so dark, or even bright outside. That's Morning!

Where you bring your plant tea and biscuits and sing a happy song to them.

Then you are for sure experiencing a morning.

Research shows is BEST to chop when the sun rises! Also, why are you using 18 hours of light? Flowering cannabis plants NEED less then 12 hours LIGHT! They start to flower around 14-13 hours of light from personal experience and from old Over Grow experiments.

Also, to speed up drying, don't water 3-4 days BEFORE you harvest. I made a mistake and did my final flush THEN harvested the day after and had to deal with a insanely HEAVY over 4 foot tall Christmas tree. never again...
