Chlorine in DWC Need advice assap!

I started my first DWC GROW and used chlorine water (tap water) Now my 2 week old plants are exhibiting what I believe to be mag def. The new leaf tips are emerging white, then comes out green but starts yellowing beside the veins. Did i induce a magnesium lockout because of the chlorine in the tap water. I have been using 3 gal of water with 12ml of botanicare pure blend pro, and 10.5ml of liquid karma. I cut the dosage to about 1/4 strength the amounts are total not per gallon. Should i empty my res and use spring water? I need to fix the problem before it gets out of hand. Should i foilar feed Epsom salts?

Nute burn. Drain half your solution and refill with plain water pH adjusted to 5.6.5.8. PPM at that age should be no more than 200-300. You should fix it by preventing it by having meters for PPM and pH and knowing what the hell you're doing.

Your blanched tips are the first sign of nutrient overdose. It is no deficiency. And the chlorine has zip to do with it. Keep using tap water. That amount of chlorine keeps the bad stuff away that will certainly come with your noted lack of skills and lack of testing meters.

At this stage, just wait until your chinese meter arrives to add more nutes. They could probably use the recovery time. Good luck.

P.S. What type of meter did you get and how much did you save? Amazon offers several decent ones for 25 or LESS and ship from within the states (assuming that's where you are). Just curious.

Sometimes he can come across as abrasive, but he's dead on with the analysis and is one of those you want to listen to in terms of advice that will not fail you - rest assured. That said, welcome back to RIU and hope you stay a bit longer this time.

I have actually made that observation. And I agree. Thanks for the welcoming. I have been here for a while, not always posting, but always absorbing info. I have learned lots over the years, but most of all, who to listen to. And equally as important, who NOT to listen to. =]

I do that with breeder recommendations too.. I will not put my name to any product or forum user that's not solid enough to provide helpful information 99% of the time or better.

I let my water sit out a nite or two to evap chlorine then i use h202 or hygrozyme to prevent pythium

I had a problem with nutrient burn on my first dwc and picked up some clearex, just mix 1 ounce per gallon, use that for 3 or 4 days. My leaves where clawing and some other shit but that actually cleared me right up. Guy at the local hydro store turned me on to it. after four days I started easing my nutes back in. I was a week into flower with a plant that had been vegged for around 9-10 weeks so a much bigger plant then what your dealing with.

I personally wouldn't sweat about the chlorine. Too many other things to deal with besides that, but you need the tools to do it.

That happened to some ice I was growing at first. Just for info, they shriveled up and died soon after.

Hey thanks alot for the advice cut the nutes got it! Hot rod harley thanks for the advice but try to be a little more sympathetic. It's my first attempt at hydroponics, i got excited and started before my equipment arrived. That is my mistake I know and I will probably make a few more before harvest day but hey its a learning curve.

chlorine really isn't a problem but for awhile now cities have started adding chloramine which is a chlorine/ammonia mixture. you can't just let water with chloramine sit and outgas like you can chlorine.

Removing chloramines from water

Chloramines should be removed from water for dialysis, aquariums, hydroponic applications and homebrewing beer. Chloramines can interfere with dialysis, can hurt aquatic animals, and can give homebrewed beer a metallic taste. In hydroponic applications it will stunt the growth and fruit production of plants.

You can neutralize chloramine with tap water condtioner in the aquarium section at petco. sodium thiosulfate... it's cheap easy to get and lasts multiple grows.
