What is your view on using Chitosan Oligosaccharide to irritate your plant into producing more stink? For those who don't know it makes your plants think its under attack by insects, and triggers a defence response that in theory makes your plant smell more. I've got not evidence of that even though I've been using it because I've not done a side by side comparison. I'd imagine those who see their plants as a living, who perhaps even 'humanize' their plants like they do their pets would think its a no no. You can't tell me you haven't sat there stoned talking to to your weed. I was thinking maybe asking it to smell stronger would work instead.

That's readily available and if you over do it you'll risk sacrificing yield for trich production or worse...illicit reversal.

I've been looking into trying to extract chitosan from shellfish meal to use as a foliar for the prevention of botrytis. I have about 20 pounds of meal, sodium hydroxide for deproteinization and acetic acid for demineralization. I have a whole folder of bookmarks regarding it. I think I'll give it a go.

I've used the Chitosan Oligosaccharide in the past. I made stock solution for foliar feeds but it was PITA.
Now I just use lobster compost and insect frass and let the microbes do the work.
Not in the same way we test other elements

.....recently got a killer deal on 275g chitosan. Love the vinegar nose it has lol. My partner had the good (relative) idea to use more chitosan instead of pH down in our feeds. Seemed fine until he kept upping the amount. Seemed fine...
There is effects that look like too acidic, even though we pH to 6.4. Phosphorus, calcium and potassium lock up? Even though they get cal mag and Kelp/KOH. And top dressed with 4 20 0 fish bone. The first time at large volume used, I noticed a lot of precipitated solids at the bottom of the tank. Kelp, fulvic?
The second time we pHd a little lower to 6.2 and the feed was crystal clear! Not kelpy brown! Thought I had a stoner moment and hooked up to spigot. I stirred it up resumed feed and it looked like a slurry of coagulated solids like spoiled milk. Rechecked pH was still 6.2 so just rocked it. Plants looked excellent the next night so no damage to them.
Research says chitosan is used to clear turbid water and pull heavy metals out of solution. Testament to the clearing of water. But Im not sure where the heavy metal line is versus plant nutrients. Iron likely pulled out? Something pulled out of solution? Maybe I dont know.
Im now just watering it in by itself not mixing with nutes. And will likely try the fungal derived chitosan as research says it provides a stronger antifungal response in plants.

We had 3 ¹/² weeks left in a dep house, used a strong dose of chitosan to make up for lost time as smoke finally cleared . Reason was summer wild fire smoke had them on slow development. Seemed to stop flowering to a screeching halt. We surmised as the plants near senescence as sensi that a strong triggering of the insect immune system response was too much.

Perhaps activating ISR and SAR require a delicate balance?

No, I have not looked for a fungal source of chitosan. But the research suggests that the source of chitosan has a bearing on which type of immune response is stimulated stronger.
Still trying to figure out the best way to use it. Might further dilute our working solution. Use monthly instead of weekly, or as needed i.e pest pressure before sprays? Definitely use alone, the coagulation of the kelp and fulvic acid was kinda incredible, the feed was crystal clear.
