Veg Day 36

Everything is going very well. It hasn't even been a week since my cloning update and I am happy to report that at least half already have root bumps. I tried my best to get a decent picture of them and also to get some video shots but my camera isn't the best. I have so much lush green growth and dozens of clone worthy branches. I will likely start a second round in a couple days.

My sexing still isn't entirely finished. As it stands right now my official count is 4 females 2 boys and 2 undetermined. The one runt of the litter is slowly starting to catch up. If it turns out to be a girl I will not likely clone it. It's genetics are not desirable. The second male that I discovered (I believe it to be Chernobyl though to be honest I don't know anymore thanks to poor labeling) has AMAZING genes so far. It is by far the bushiest greenest lushest plant I've got. It certainly has some ideal genetics to hold onto. I love short bushy plants and that is exactly what this is. I have two particularly bushy females as well that I believe to be Chernobyls which I will most definitely be pollenating. Hopefully by combining a short very bushy female with a short very bushy male I will get some beans that are SHORT and BUSHY.

I would LOVE to start flowering soon, but I do not have a big enough secondary space to accommodate the amount of cloning I would like to do. For now what is usually my flowering space will remain at a vegging light cycle.

I included a couple snapshots and a nice video tour of the room as it was earlier tonight.

ENJOY

Side note, hope the local marijuana march treated you well this weekend.

HI! I only just found this journal on TBK's thread. Subbed +rep. You have a great system and I am really interested in what you will do with this. Glad to hear you are of the simple cloning method- to overcomplicate is to compromise a grow unnecessarily! I also whole heartedly agree on the miracle gro- Ive seen it do terrible things to plants. So overrated.
Watching with enthusiasm! :D

Hey ottermunky glad to have you along for the ride.
I have some more pictures I need to take. The clones have more or less all rooted and the dixie cups been filled with soil. I'm too lazy to set up my aeroponics, or try some DWC right now so I'll just continue with the dirt. I have to start getting them ready to send outside and the dixie cups make a great little starter if that's what you intend to do with them. I just make sure to cut a fairly large branch every time so that when they end up pot bound in the cup they are already of considerable size and ready for the outdoors. They are also very easy to transport when they are in the little cups. Not very much weight and they require only a little space.

I'm really excited about this grow! I haven't ever seen anybody clone like that, but I may try it the next time I need to. Occam's razor seems to be the key to success in this subculture. Nice work, I'm sub-ing! +rep!!!

Glad to have you on board MJ. If you don't own an EZ-Cloner style cloning system then the cup of water is by far the simplest way to clone. Having no need for fancy water treatments or tedious periodic misting is a wonderful thing. All 12 of the cuts I took recently have rooted nicely and are in their starter soil cups. To celebrate this I cut 15 more today :) In a couple more weeks there will be dozens of branches ready to be cut and the madness can really begin.

Veg Day 45

Now we're really bushin'

The girls are responding tremendously to their daily spreading. The tops have all bent out away from the middle and the middles have all filled up with lower shoots. It's a beautiful thing to watch. It's not quite as efficient as a screen but it works for me for the time being. Aside from healthy growth and cloning there isn't much else to report. I'm currently only watering once every 5 days or so and giving them a good solid soaking when I do. My water is always pH'd into the 6.4-6.8 range. I say range because I'm not very picky as to exactly where it lands. I try not to stress too much about anything when growing and kinda just let it happen. It seems to be the easiest way to go about gardening and really life in general.

Here are some lovely pictures. I tried to prop up a 4L bottle in the one so you could get some idea of their size. I would guess they are about 24-36" tall and almost the say across as well. I'm not letting them grow much vertically.

It's time to start drying some of my hot peppers. Both plants are finishing up :D
The plus side of having a room with high heat and no rain is that it is perfect for drying things, vegetables, fruits, and even laundry sometimes.

It's almost been 2 months since my little girls made it above ground. They are all grown up now and it is quite a beautiful sight to see. If I'm ever stressed out or unhappy I just pop the door open and the warm glow and healthy growth instantly cheers me up. There isn't much to report. There is plenty of cutting going on and will continue this way for a little while longer still. It will likely be 90 days of veg at the very least before I switch them over.

Here are some photographs for your, and my, viewing pleasure.

I have no choice but to veg for this long during cloning season. Getting a ton of clones outside is much more important to me than a small indoor harvest. My veg space once I get an actual cycle going is much to small for the large scale cloning I have to do so my cycle will have to wait a bit. It will be for the best at the end of October when there should be lots of outdoor grass to go collect. Now to start scoping out my locations.

I'm probably going to stop updating this until I start flowering in a couple weeks. If something important happens I'll make a note of it, but until flowering these posts will be rather boring and therefore I am just going to stop for now. See you in a couple weeks.

You have more control over soil conditions in a pot which usually leads to more optimal growth. The ones in the ground always end up doing fine though as long as there is adequate rain. Gotta make sure you dig a nice sized hole and backfill it with some good dirt and you're all set.

I didn't bother to take any pictures, but I figured I'd let you know that I'm into 12/12 now. I switched them over before I left for the weekend on Friday. I'll start counting my 9-11 weeks from the first of July. That'll make it easy to remember. I have no idea how I am going to get them all to fit in the room. I'm a little over 6 feet tall and they are already up to my nips. I bend them over multiple times a day and they just spring right back up. This should be an interesting battle. I'm gonna add some extra light in a week or two once I get a little further into the 12/12 cycle. For now I feel fine with only 600W at 12/12 but soon the extra 400W I have running will make a great addition. I'm going to only turn it on for 8 hours a day to avoid a daily 1000W power spike. It'll come on after and turn off before the 600 and kinda simulate the heat of midday.

Flowering DAY 1!

Today is my first official day of flowering. It has been a week since I switched to 12/12 and I find that nothing really happens in the first week so I don't even count it. I am currently feeding them a mixed solution of Pure Gro and Pure Bloom nutes while they transition over. One more feeding of the mixed nutrients and then I am going to cut out the Gro entirely and go solely with Pure Bloom. For anyone interested I am currently feeding at about 1000ppm and a pH around 6.2

I decided that I didn't want to mess around with bending them by hand anymore so you will see in one of the pictures that they have all been tied down. All of the tall tops have been bent over and tied to the pot with some plastic twine. This caused my canopy to grow by almost half width wise but I got back roughly 6-12" of height so it was totally worth it. I have another 1-2' that I can move the light up still but for now I would rather make the plants shorter than move the light higher.

The first picture is a shot of the whole canopy before applying the bend. Every picture after that is a post bend picture. I got one close up of the start of one of my flowers. My rough guess for total yield based on their size entering flowering as well as my available light is roughly 400-600g. I have never flowered either of these strains before though so that is entirely a guess. My canopy is roughly 6'x5' and it is all nice looking tops. There isn't much growth under the canopy. I trimmed mostly all of it away while cloning.

I'll take some pictures without the HPS soon so you can truly appreciate how green and healthy everything is. For now these will have to do.

Enjoy, I know I am.

Sorry for the long delay. I've been too lazy to do a post recently. I took a couple of pictures yesterday. Flowering is going well, but I am having trouble keeping them properly watered. I need about 4-8L per girl for every second day. It is getting ridiculous how thirsty they are. I think the stretch is over now and it is strictly budding going on. I have a bunch of low growth I wish I would have cut out as it isn't getting much light. I don't like to prune during flowering though so I'll just leave it. Maybe I'll do a double harvest on the plants so the bottom can flower for an extra week or so.

I doubt my outdoors girls are doing very well. We didn't get rain for about 3 weeks and I didn't get a chance to go water them. Hopefully they pulled through. Lots of wild plants around my neighbourhood made it but there is also lots of dead stuff. I guess I'll find out in October when I go look for them. Fingers crossed for now.

Also check out my freakishly large cherry tomato plant. Yes that first massive bush is only one plant.
