Seeing as pretty much all heirloom tomatoes are indeterminate, I would think that the determinate trait was selected during the making of the bush varieties. I can't say with complete confidence though... Good question for Uncle Ben.There are determinate varieties of tomatoes and such due to intense breeding, but im not sure which one came first. Probably determinate species, and then we made them indeterminate for consumer satisfaction.

I have a haze plant that is about as close to an indeterminate variety that I have ever seen. When I cut it down at 14 weeks, it has fresh new growth shooting out right from the tip of fully mature hazy spears/buds. I could probably let it go 20 weeks and it would finish all the way... but, eh,,
From what I understand... (I could be wrong )The extreme determinate mj plants we are all enjoying are a result of breeding.
