checking trichs... think about this

As bud grows and matures all of the newest growth is what your looking at when you scope a bud. The trichomes you're viewing are on the newest calyxes. So most of us wait until these newest calyxes are at their peak but, do we really know what's going on deep inside the bud. All of those older, buried trichomes are going to be at a further ripeness development than the outside ones were commonly viewing, unless you're actually peeling a bud apart and checking in deep.

Thoughts?

Trchis are at constant production, one is dying another is growing in it's place until plant get ripe and she start going amber on you that's when thc turns into cbd.

If this is true then you could "harvest" trichs through out the bloom, no?

OK.. That is just conjecture and a bad guess...
I cut ripe buds open all the time...
Trichome production... is going on on a healthy plant until the day you pull...
Yes the original Calyx hairs will go back into bud and will swell up like a size of "Pea"
Buds Hairs are grown on top cola and will stop when plant is done...
These top cola hairs always recede back into bud...
The pea size first calyxes hairs also recede right before you harvest...
Some plant species will never go Amber Trichome
I harvest when plant Top Cola Hairs recede, and calyxes hairs recede...
My buds will be thick at that time... and no, the Trichomes are not amber on the oldest Tric's EVER....
Through and through when I cut a bud, I get BILLIONS of milky Tric's.... Billions....
Maybe a few amber... Now those that say they wait for 20-40% Amber...
I just doubt it, or you harvest skinny buds...
If I had 40% Amber Tric's on my buds... there'd be like 400,000,000 amber tric's...PER BUD....
So don't embarrass your self and say you harvest at 40% Amber... That, just is not quite possible.... on a 100% healthy plant....IMO....

I'm not talking about harvest, just about trichomes development ;)

Trichomes are good indicators of where the plant is at the moment but you also got to look at plant as a whole and see if she's ripe and ready to get pulled.

I just harvested my DP blueberry last night at 10 weeks. I feel like she could have went another week since there were new calyxes forming but I like the high she was producing so I chopped. She was amber on the leaves but only a few on the actual calyxes. Ton of milky! I harvested a little early because I feel I let my last grow go a little late (15% amber). I think this BB strain could have fattened up more but I just figured I might have to sacrifice a little weight for milkier trichs. Its all a learning experience. Next time I try this strain I will let her go more amber just to see. I'm also running a Liberty Haze but she looks like a 13 weeker. Way different strain.

I know.... I totally agree with you...
There is nothing like experience....
I grow the same plant... Many times over and over...
I clone the biggest fastest grower...
The slow clones get smoked...
I know exactly when the plant has 4 weeks, 3 weeks and two weeks left...
It is much harder when you grow multiple photo period plants...
My Plant/clone of a clones clone... takes 49 days... From start of 12/12
It is easy to tell... all plants do the exact same thing, at same time, every time...
I've harvested at 6.5/7.5/8/8.5/9 weeks...
The Trichomes never changed after 6 weeks...
I let a plant go 12 weeks on the lower pop corn... Three weeks extra... 2% amber ....
Why would I wait... 7 weeks buds are biggest and the high is what I want...
Do what works best for you....
Always do what works... Try things for yourself...
This growing thing... It keeps me alive...
I always advise, find a "High" you like.... find a short as possible photo period...
And stick with it... Refine your craft... and Max out what you do...
As you grow, you will get better and better... and will be able to tell...
Your Buds... will be like mine, have billions and billions of white milky gooey Trichome highways around your plant....
Good Luck...

Nothing wrong with harvesting then. I never wait for amber I look for mostly milky with a few clear. I always have very racy, panic weed lol. Amber on the sugar leaves is usually a good indicator that the rest are getting close to milky.
