Sup y'all. Just thought I would share check out my first flowers. Anybody have a yield estimate? These suckers are almost 9 weeks into flowering. Currently flushing but not really seeing any amber trichs yet. These northern berrys are supposed to take 8-9 weeks, but I've read that flowering with CFLs/LEDs might take a bit longer? Maybe. 90 watt LED + 85 and 55 watt actual CFL + 105 watt veg CFL thrown in the last few weeks of flowering... 5 gallon hydro DWC.

Considering the following, I am satisfied with the way things have turned out:
-flowered with LEDs/CFLs
-plants got WAY too huge for such low wattage
-accidentally broke off entire big cola a few weeks into flowering lol
-did not check my pH ONCE. used AN pH perfect formula but had a lot of deficiencies or lockouts throughout grow
-had room/water temps at 80-85 degrees most of the time. unhealthy roots
-did not use reflectors on the CFLs cuz I had some problems with my DIY one (it fell on the plants and knocked off the cola)

With so much that I could have done better, I am looking forward to round 2.
How much do y'all think these puppies will yield?
PS I think my famous energy crystals obviously helped :) lol

I remember ur post about the crystals, I agree with u lol, ur plants look sub par, but all the abuse they took, id say u did a good job! Especially for using cfl's, IMO, the water temp isnt as important as the ph, just try to keep ur ph in check, and change ur water atleast every 2 weeks, if not every week. Again, good job

Wazzapening bro, considering you've had a few problems the girl/girls look pretty healthy..I think you're flushing too early though, rough estimate about three weeks till harvest.I say that cos currently my 20 Cheese girls which are under 2 600watt HPS lights are two weeks from harvest(8 weeks flowering) and 40% of the pistils are already rusty in colour and retracting and withering.Your pistils are still well long and white, they gotta retract back into the seed pod and turn rusty first. You're looking at 1.5 to 2 ounces dry i reckon.
Keep up the good work mate.

So maybe I should continue feeding today? Again, I am not seeing any amber trichs yet... How long should it take from the first few amber trichs until 50/50? And that mini flush might help them flush quicker and better in a few weeks... I hear a lot of rookies make the mistake of harvesting too early and their yield doesn't quite hit its full potential. Thanks for the replies and suggestions everybody !

Feeding vs Flushing? The verdict is still out for me. A couple good threads on this site discussing the pros & cons. For me, I flush if I have problems and feed the whole way through.

Not sure how long you have to go. I tend to go in 5-day increments. If you are not ready to harvest today, you probably got another 5 days (min).
I like the way you are looking at trichs (not solely pistils). If you got zero amber trichs, you are not done.
You can harvest with X% amber trichs to get a different type of smoke. Amber indicates THC degredation. I go for 5% amber. This way I know I am done, but not over done. For me, 50/50 would indicate a late harvest.

Yep, I haven't really given any thoughts into the pistils. From what I understand, the pistils turning amber is just a sign that the plant is "maturing," but not necessarily indicative of harvest time. I have a 25 or 30x loupe that I wish would magnify a little more, and a 60-100x microscope from radioshack that I wish would work a little better lol.. I am liking your idea of fewer amber trichs, since I wouldn't mind a little bit more of a heady smoke. This 60/40 indica will probably put my ass on the couch regardless though lol. I just cleaned out the buckets and refilled with RO water and decided to go for another feeding since I am not quite done yet. Probably the last one before a final flush. All I used for this was some SM-90, sugar daddy, awesome blossom, and thrive B-1... I think my babies are really going to appreciate their last supper, clean buckets, and extra time :) I will keep y'all posted on how this turns out!

Thank you for sharing this 90w ufo + cfl grow, I got a similar 135w ufo/cfl setup I'm hoping turns out half as nice as this grow has, not sure on the yield as I have not completed a grow myself yet, but I'm hoping its alot more then what I was implied to get once I mentioned a ufo led cfl setup, Lol. Will keep a eye on your results bud.

I added a some ufo's into my transition room. They seem to like it of course, they seem to like me too so I dunno. Maybe I'm just better than I think I am lol

It's christmas morning!!! wahoooo!!! ;-) I chopped my first plant today. This was the smaller one. It was more ripe than the other one. Interesting, because this one is the one that had 2 high-powered flowering CFLs on it... The other one, which has a lot more bud on it, isn't quite ready yet, and it has 1 LED and a high-powered veg CFL on it... I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Anywho, check it out!!!!!! I hung these flowers in an empty bookshelf, put a HEPA air filter in it on low power for some clean slight air flow, put my magic crystals in a toroidal shape next to the air filter (:hump:), and flipped the bookshelf around against a wall so that no light can get into it. I'm extremely happy with the results so far and eager to learn more. 20130110_063340.jpg20130110_063347.jpg20130110_063353.jpg20130110_063406.jpg

So for an update and a question for y'all.... This is day 3 of hang drying this plant and they are already beginning to smell better. These CFL buds are a bit fluffy (but packed with trichomes and orange hair:weed:). They seem a bit crispy. My question is, since these buds are a bit fluffy, might the "stem snap" method not be a good indicator? These stems are still quite bendy, not snappy, but the buds already seem extremely dry. I don't want to overdry them before the jar cure, since that is where the magic happens. It almost seems like they are ready to go in the jars even though the stems are still bendy. It makes since that the fluffy buds might dry a lot quicker than the stems. Are they ready for the jars y'all????? They are crispy when I pinch them. Slightly spongy. I am afraid if I wait until the stems almost snap, the fluffy buds are going to be WAY too dry and won't cure effectively. Some quick responses would be awesome :)

Fuck yeah! 2 ounces dry. the smaller plant was 17 grams and the bigger plant (LED) was 39 grams. This northernberry is fucking dank! Great genetics. Some of the best smelling nugs Ive ever seen... or smelled. I am now convinced that the proper dry/cure is more important than the proper flush, although you want to do both for maximum awesomeness. I didn't exactly flush these buds 100% correctly, but WOW they seriously came to life in the jars. The bigger plant is some seriously quality buds. A few things I did differently with the second plant: LED light, let it grew about a week longer, 36 hours darkness before harvest, hung dry the entire plant (after the trim), and I am very pleased with how this plant turned out. Absolutely ZERO chemical smell, overwhelming natural berry smell that almost stings my nostrils. I am very very happy with my first grow. Biggest nug was almost 10 grams. We smoked some of the smaller plant a few days ago and wow, put us all on our asses. We went bowling but we didn't feel like it. Couchlock, munchies, classic heavy stone. Haven't sampled the better nugs yet, letting them bask in their own glory in the jars as long as possible. Also, is this what a foxtail is? 20130116_180557-1.jpg20130118_202410.jpg20130120_121936.jpeg20130120_123043.jpg20130120_123056.jpg
