okay so i went on econolight and found some low watt hps lights, theres 35,50,70, and 100w etc. What i was wondering is do i need to buy a ballast for these low watt hps lights? or can i just plug them in a normal bulb socket

They come with the ballast, they are complete fixtures if you are talking about ones like this:

http://www.e-conolight.com/Product/EProductDetail.asp?ProductFamilyID=7&FGNumber=E-MT6H151G

(open that link twice to get the right page)

Tons of people are using this particular $20 150w HPS, it's a great bargain amd by far the best deal anywhere.

You may even get discounted or free shipping if you call in your order rather than doing it online by just being a new customer.
