So I'm looking for a 600w ballast. I have searched ebay for hours and have found some decent deals. Here's one I found, it claims to have a built in radio frequency deterrent so It won't cause issues with cable, Internet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251323444542?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

its definitely a knock off but if it puts out the lumens and lasts at least a year I'd be happy. I can save up and get something better by the
But what about people on here? We have a for sale section with not one single thread. What's up with that.

I personally wouldn't buy that. If your budget was only $100 for a ballast, I would find a used one. If your ballast goes out during your grow, it wouldn't be worth it. I put to much time & effort into my grow to trust it to something that cheap. just my .02

Yea I can understand that. I found a couple used lumateks for a decent price. This one here was still cheaper and it's new. I have a buddy who bought a knock off from ebay and its been running strong for over a year. But the risk is still there, your right

Looks the same as the hydro farm sg ballast. I have two that have been running great for 6 months. I have ten magnetic ballasts that have been work reliably for 2 and some 5 years. You can also rebuild a mag ballast for pretty cheap if you do have a problem.

If you have to purchase lower end units or "knock offs" as you say, purchase a unit that has no internal fan. This ballast has a fan, search on, thee heat sink ballasts will be built a little better. JAS

...i have one that looks just like that that has been running non-stop now for near 2 years, ...another plus with magnetic ballasts is they are DIY repairable, ...not so with the digitals.

...to illustrate how easy they are to work on here is a shot of a couple 150watt ballast's i took from a pair of fixtures that were then discarded.

...and a 400watt ballast i built from a kit and put into a security box i got at the thrift store for $10.00.

peace, bozo

Although you could get one on Ebay that would probably work just as well, it may not. I would go with an Apollo off amazon. I have one 400 and it has seized to amaze me in the shit I've put it through. It got power surged one time and I though she was done for. Unplugged, waited ten minutes, and she turned right back on. Here's a link to a 600 Watt Apollo Ballast.
EDIT: Make sure you click on the 600 since it's only $99. Also, they come with a 3 year warranty.
Bozo, that's so badass. Where did you get the ballast kit from? How much? What are the upsides to magnetic (other than repairing yourself if competent enough)?

Thanks for all the input ! I ended up finding a good deal on ebay for an xtrasun 600. The seller has like a 99.7% positive feedback through 6000+ sales. So I'm hoping I get this thing in and it's perfect... I'll come back and do an update just for the hey of it

I sent all mine back! With 14 ballasts mounted on the wall I couldn't here the T.V. from the noise. JAS

Magnetic last longer <mine is from 93 or 94> and don't have to worry about RFI as much tho they will start to hum after some time. Kits can be bought from most electric supply stores.
