Procrastinated a little on the fan setup, but i'm working on a Stanly Blowerfan to cool a CoolTube Tutorial, i'll post it when i'm done, or at least the pictures so you can all see how you can buy, and cool a light for right around 200 bucks.

Fan runs great with the light. And the light is still working brilliantly. Highly recommended after using it since the OP of this thread.

Told the guy at the hydro shop about the deal, he said there was no way he could ever come close to matching that....then he asked for the info on who I got it from (The company LEDWholesaler) so he could find out who's sellin lights so cheap they could put him out of business.

Wish mine still worked...
The 5-0 destroyed everything...
Was my own fault though....I can't elaborate, but it wasn't the weed that brought them too me.
I may have to buy another one, since i'm fairly uncomfortable splicing all the wires back together.
They even destroyed my Stanly blower fan...fuckin assholes...

Sounds shady. You had me convinced to buy one of cheap brand 1000w lights til I get the last page of this thread and read that ^.

Had NOTHING to do with the light. It worked wonderful until they showed up for an unrelated reason.
I ASSURE you, they HAPPENED upon my grow in a shitstorm of bad luck.
Pay more if you want to. But there's really no reason to, unless your unlucky like me. ;-)

As I said, it was an unrelated reason that my grow was busted.
It was a shitty thing to happen, but the light works beautifully, and I still stand by it 100%.

HTG has a 5 year ballast warranty and a 1 year bulb warranty

i would rather pay extra $80 and get the warranties.

The amazon kit has only a 1 year warranty on ballast.

I think it's a no brainer which would you getting the most for your money.

Then I believe it has changed recently, since the one I purchased was 3 year. I even said as much on the first page...
But it also says 600W in the description and isn't, so that leads me to believe that it's a clerical error, either saying 1 now or 3 then.

However anyone who doesn't want it is free not to get it. But the difference between HTG, and this "cheapo" one, is that this one is UL Listed, and CE Certified. HTG is NOT. And a 5 year warranty sounds great, but when it's made from inferior parts, I suppose it's not hard to replace.
And that 5 year warranty will seem pretty silly if the cheap piece of "Made in China" shit burns your house down.

But you pay an extra 80 for those 'warranties'. There are several people who have decided to purchase this light from this thread, check the pages and ask them how it's working out. If they have any practical complaints. Cause these are the things that the new growers i'm recommending this light to should know about before buying.

My only practical complaint was that the ballast gets a little warm to the TOUCH after being on for several hours. But I simply put a $5 tiny fan from walmart blowing on it and it never even gets hot. Simply setup the fan to turn on with the lights themselves. And that's about it. Even with the bulb included, I was growing some amazing looking bud before it got clipped....

Video of the light running, pics of the buds it was producing. It's hard to see them in that light of course :-P But upon request, I could prob post some better pics of the buds in a better light.

Thereabouts yeah. I actually put it around 2300, but, it worked quite well for me.
Trust me though, go to walmart, get a little personal fan that swivels to point up or down. It's like $6.79 or so, but you put it on the ballast pointing downward, and the ballast never gets above room temp.
Other then that, simple setup, simple shipping, standard box no attention drawn to it. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the results. ;-)
And as I said before, if you use the stanly blowerfan mod, it connects to, and works with this light beautifully. If you already have, or want to get an inline fan, then I suggest it. But if your strapped for cash, and don't mind making a couple small modifications, then I would highly recommend getting one. It's less then $50, and costs about 20-30 bucks (depending on local prices and complexity of your mod, it's easy to improvise, and substitute components of the mod design) to air cool your light, and dump the exhaust just about anywhere. Although, I wouldn't recommend just anywhere, I only used my window for a short time, and needed a carbon filter for it. I would use a carbon filter to just dump it in your attic, as the attic usually has the ability to vent outside. And even in your house isn't fully safe, as you NEVER know when the fuzz could come a knocking.

However, if you can afford, get a new bulb, I used the one that came with it, and it worked beautifully. But it's certainly a matter of preference.
Good luck bro, take some pics and update us on your happiness or disappointment with this product. It will assist others in their decision to get one or not.
And if my GOOD experience if a fluke, I wanna hear about it!

Congrats on your purchase bro! Hope it helps you to get an inexpensive one.

O Man this thread has really got me torn. seems like a good deal but i dont want something from china . I also don't see how Hgt is that good of a place tho. they have a 400w for 119 but the ballast looks like a cheap air pump u keep in the truck of your car. Not even close. Had nothing to do with my grow, just bad luck really.
But I believe you misready. HTG isn't CE or UL listed, while this ballast is. And while the warranty is shorter, it still has improved functionality and safety as compared to HTG. Not to mention the lack of sound and excessive heat output.
Good Growing to you!

I dont understand how so many of you are overlooking the most convenient place to obtain hid ballasts...YOUR LOCAL ELECTRICAL WHOLESALER. They all have metal halide and high pressure sodium ballasts and bulbs. they have 50w,100w,150w,250w,400w,and 1000w ballasts in both at every store and the mogul sockets and some have 600w and 1500w. You can pick up a ballast and bulb for 50 bucks all you need to do is wire it yourself and the ballasts all have a picture diagram of how to wire it, and also get a hood or make one. PS you will need to pay cash and make mention of it as you are going to a wholesaler and they mainly deal with contractors BUT WILL sell to people of the street for cash...I know this as I use to work at one a couple years ago. Happy growing.

'You get what you pay for'.

Perhaps. You can count on paying for what you get and if you are lucky you will get what you paid for! :)

Personaly, the lamp setup is one part where I would spend the bucks to go first class. It's the heart of the growing operation. With off market brands I wonder not only about quality, as people have mentioned above, but also spectrum. MH bulbs come in a variety of spectrums/spectra. Some are rated 4200K, some 7200K. Also, I wonder if the glass on the bulb and the tube is transparent to UV.

Not saying it's a bad idea and I realize some people have very tight budgets where it might be a choice between this item or none at all. Just my personal preference.
