charcoal filter idea

So instead of sucking thru the charcoal filter and out of the duct can u suck air out of the room and blow it into a charcoal filter if it is big enough say a 4 foot one

If you're using a pre-made filter always pull air through it instead of pushing air out. They are designed to work this way and will fail prematurely if you operate them in reverse. There is pre-filter material on the outside of the filter to remove larger particulate matter that would otherwise quickly clog up the filter and render it useless. There is none on the inside of the filter.

What? It's not like we're dealing with atmospheric pressure. Yes, typically 'pulling' is better than 'pushing', but in the absence of 'fighting' a force it's negligible.

Did you even read my post? I said that pre-made filters are designed to function in a "pull through" configuration. I never once commented that "pulling" air was better than "pushing" air. The filter is just designed to work better with one than the other.

Edit: Buuuut, since you went there, we are fighting a force: the resistance of the filter.

That's not a force. There are only 4 forces(we absolutely know of). Strong/weak nuclear forces, gravity, and magnetism.

The filter creates resistance.

I was only using your words, in the context that you stated them. I love how you never admit that you are wrong. Deflect deflect deflect. Go be a DEA spokesperson. Begone passive aggressive internet troll. To the ignore list with you.

Let me state this clearly: You can use a carbon filter however you want, push or pull, it will still work. Premade can type filters are wrapped externally with a prefilter material to block larger particulate matter and prolong the life of the activated carbon. This only works if you "pull" air through the filter. If you make your own filter it does not matter how you set it up so long as if you use prefilter that you put it in the path of the air as it enters the filter.

the reason to suck air thru the filter first is you are moving clean air. if you get a leak the air smells good.

if you blow air you are moving dirty air and all leaks smell.
