Changing reservoir in RDWC

Hi, I have a quick question about my water pump. When I change out my 10gal reservoir I tend to suck air into my pump that I'm using to get out all the old water. Is this okay? the sound it makes is slightly causing me to be concerned about it.

It’s fine to do that, just don’t run the pump when it’s dry, as in not wet at all.
 
I found that a wetvac comes in extremely handy for getting water out. You can also mount the top onto a lid for a rolling trash can and it makes it a giant rolling pump
