Hi all,

I have 6 plants under a 125w eco-lite, plants were thriving and growing at an alarming rate... Last night i changed to 400w hps. This moring when i checked my plants top leaves have all started to droop badly..Temps are a constant 23c-26c...

Anyone know what the issue could be ???? I have now moved the light up as far as it can go away from the plants hoping that this may help which is 3-4 feet away.

All reply s will receive rep+

Thanks.

Sounds like you may have had them too close to start for sure, 4 feet sounds like an ideal height for that hps to be at from the start if i'm correct?

Maybe they are stressed. 125W to 400W is a big change. I would start high and then work my way down. Also watch for big spike in temps.

rep+ to all... i had the light about 2 feet above plants over night, but have since moved it about 4 ft away and moved all of the plants to the side of the grow room.. I wanted to go to 12/12 lighting tonight after i take cuttings.. Should the plants return to normal after a while ??

All reply's will receive rep.

Thanks

Forgot to mention Temps over night stayed the same at 24-25c, so temp problems not an issue...

Any ideas please ? Has this happened to anyone before ? Need to know if the plants will recover ok...

Thanks

should recover quickly, no sweat. put your hand palm down under your light till u feel it get hot, if it burns your hand it will burn your plant, use that as a judge, hope that helps.

4 feet is too far away.

You still want them as close as you can get them, if you could get the light 6 inches away they would love it.. iffff temps were fine. They cannot have too much light, if the temps are below 25c or 80f they will not stress from that and the issue, if there is one yet, would be something else. 4 feet away is likely to make them stretch and you do not want that.

Cheers and rep+.. The leaves are curling inward and this only happened since the light change over last night.. Temps are ok as said above, it's just weird that this has happened since the change of light.. I will be taking cuttings tonight and then turning to 12/12, so hopefully all should be ok. They were 100% growing perfectly until the light change so as you can imagine a little pissed off.

If anyone else has anything to add please do.

And thanks

I'm not so sure about that. With my air cooled hood i can have my 6oow a couple inches from the plant tops without temp issues.
I've found it bleaches the leaves and the top buds, since i moved the light further away the problem has stopped.

well sure, a couple of inches is very close but it isn't the light that is doing it, it is perhaps a hotspot?

if he doesnt have a aircooled hood 6 inches will fry them try a foot and a half to a foot above how old are plants
i keep my non air cooled 400w a foot away if u have it to far they will stretch like crazy
I second opinion that they r just not use to light yet and will be ok

Thanks guys for all of your reply's Rep+ to all.. I have had the light about 2 foot from the plants all day and they have now all nearly returned to normal.. The plants are all 70 days into the grow cycle and all showing their sex... All are female... 3 snow white & 3 Papaya.. Tonight i will take cuttings and put them into the grow chamber with the Eco -lite doing its thing.

Thanks again for all of your help.. The conclusion is that the light was to close and the plants were not use to it.i will gradually bring the light closer over the next week and all should be fine. They are all healthy bushy good looking ladies... Cheers, Beers and heights.
