Jus to add to the confusion, watts and lumens are two different things, focus on lumens and you can grow anything...

for cfl's:

  1. In a nutshell…

    Lumens per square foot:

Minimum amount of lighting needed is around 2000 lumens per square foot.
(Two – 23 watt CFL’s, per square foot*)

Mid range is around 5000 lumens per square foot.
(Three – 23 watt CFL’s, per square foot*)

Optimal is 7000-7500, or higher, lumens per square foot.
(Five – 23 watt CFL’s, per square foot*)

It's just an 2 cords from lamps that were being thrown out, I just added the splitters. oh and this is my home made hood made out of a cardboard box with mylar mail shipping envelope plastic my meds come in. All I spent money on were the clamp hoods and exhaust fan and 2 adjusting clips to lower and raise my."hood",

I spent less than 420 bucks on my lighting setup.

It still takes 300+ watts of daylight tubes to keep healthy moms, 8o watts of cool white is good for the cloning bin. I prefer 4' tubes. TBO I've found CFL to be truly a pain in the butt. I can't argue with the majority of the stats in earlier posts. These numbers are allowing about 12 more sq feet per 1 kw hps than I prefer.

I think it is best to mix up the spectrums when flowering than just straight 2700 k. The sun will give you the highest spectrum around noon; the spectrums will drop as the sun lowers on the horizon giving you a yellowish then finally a reddish tinge.

I've also read that lumens are for the human eye than it is to benefitting the plant, yet you hear that 2500 lumens per square feet is the minimum needed to grow, 5000 lumens being mid range and 7,500+ being optimal.
