Thinking about starting a grow but wanted a few opinions first. Ive seen a lot of great news about CFL's, but would I be stupid to use CFls instead of a T5?

gonna need more than one t5.

cfl's are good because the light isn't spread out over a large area and you don't need a ballast or special fixture.

if you use tubes you're gonna need a lot of them... same with cfl's so whichever works better for you. you need 5k lumens/sq.ft

that depends on what kind of t5 .are talking about home depot t5 or 40,000 lumens t5?

jesus; you dont need 5,000 lumens per sq.ft grow.
theres a grow on here with 2 cfls and thats about 2000 lm per sq.ft
I'm pimpin a 23w CFL grow in my sig. ;-)

gonna need more than one t5.

T5s are the shit because they spread out that light. Nice even distribution and you're hitting the plants from so many angles it's like HID on a light mover. Small CFLs have the ballast built into the lamp, but when you get over 200w you gotta buy a ballast for it.

I'd take T5s over CFLs all day.

t5ho's generally produce more lumens per watt than your normal store-bought cfls. They also produce less heat and a more even distribution.
They are also much more expensive. As it is with much of growing, if you can afford the upfront cost, you'll likely save money or see better results down the road...

so how well would my eight 30watt 6400k CFLs compare to these t5s cuz there about 24 watts less? Than switching to 30watt 2700s for flowering, how will my yields be and how much more might the t5s produce compared to that? Also am i reading the numbers right or am i missing some concept here? lol

im not really up on all the tech stuff m8 all i know is these lightwings produce a lot of light with zero heat and the plants growth is much more uniform and much closer nodes i would not reccomend cfls for flowering in any shape or form get whatever hps you can afford and cool.

there are T5 and T5 high output. I run 8 4ft T5 High output for my clones and mothers. Stay away from that stupid UFO led pos it will deform your plants. CFL's are cheap but go with the T5 high output.

so will they lower 'k CFLs be okay, cuz I already bought 8 of these 30watt 2700k warm whites for flowering...

T-5, T-5, T-5!!!!!! cfl's are cheap and thats the only good thing about them IMO. your gonna save thousands by growing over the years, why go cheap on setup costs. a old grower once told me that pennywise is pound stupid.

Here are a few pics of some plants I rescued. and garlic. these are under T5 High output lamps in a closet. get 24/7 light. the heat that is pumped in is from my carbon scrubber 12 hours a day. 3pm-3am temp may drop to 45f but no big deal. just takes longer to flower... the tripple tower I threw into bud early and pulled it back out into veg. it has been 2 months now and she is acually starting to veg again YAYA. but anyway here is a T5 high output grow. you decide.......
