CFLs? Cheap alternative?

Hi my first post. I heard that CFL's work for growing and if they are lower energy cost and heat would they work for the full growth cycle? I was thinking maybe 4 100watt CFL's. Any specific light spectrums? Any success stories using these ONLY? I am skeptical of HPS lights due to the heat/energy bill/cost/need cooling fan and whatever other hastles they cause. I have 1 100watt daylight cfl and two (1 cool 1 warm) 40watt normal florescents (which I hate and want to replace). Im going for cheap here. Cheeeeaap.

Thanks for the help all.

Ace with these..you can get a twin pack at wal mart for the price of one here though......

i have had awesome results with these for vegetation so far...i had some 2700ks at first when i started and i have gotten more growth out of using just the 6500ks in a week then i got in a month with the 2700ks...hope this helps

well you want to have more of a red spectrum for flower...you can still use the daylight during flower just as long as you have some soft or warm white bulbs with them....(mostly soft or warm though)..

How are your results with that set up? 30k and 50k? Im assuming by that you are talking about the color of the light. It was my understanding that the two best spectrums for growin are 2700k and 6500k. Is your 3000k 5000k better? What kind of yield are you getting from a plant with your set up?

this is my first grow...growing a lowryder dwarf mix so wont get that much out this plant.. but so far it looks good i like mixing in diffrent light specs the 30K are good for flowering anything higher than that is for Vegging i have 2 of them 30K and that one 50K.... 3 in total and my temps stay steady at 78-82*

u can go with 27K for flowering and 65K for Vegging is all what u wanna do u can mix some in if u want or jus go with all 27k but 30k are good for flowering also when time for flowering but if u gonna be growing with CFL's u want to go with higher watt ones like the 105 watters and higher if using the lower ones such as 23-40 u would have to put all kinds of CFL's around your plant ... but one day i will move up to a HPS system once i get all my shit going ...my CFL grow is a stealth grow only doing 3 plants at most at a time... but once i get my shit going get more space. ect.. i will be doing a 600 watt HPS... But CFL's are good to start Off With u prolly wont get that big of a yield that u want using CFL's as uppose to growing with a HPS system

If large amounts of ganja are a hassle you should just quit while you're ahead. HPS is way cheaper than CFLs and it's not the type of lamp that determines heat it is watts.
