CFL wattage and with Clones

I just picked up a few clones from a local dispensery and put them straight into soil about 4 days ago. I put them in my veg cabinet which currently has 3 23w CFLs, although I think the clones are getting light from pretty much two of the bulbs and the third is providing light to some other clones I took from my mother plant. I'm wondering if I should throw a 40w CFL in there or if the clones are too young at this point... the lights are about 2-3" from each clone at the moment.

MORE LIGHT MORE LIGHT :bigjoint:

plants love light the more the better just control the heat and ul be laughing, as a rough rule of thumb each plant will want 2-10000 lumens . with cfl's wattage x 60 will give you the amount of lumens you have . u currently have 414 lumens roughly

just added a 42 watt so I suppose I'm providing around 1445 lumens now... I just don't want to fry the youngsters, although I'm pretty sure they could handle more, just being overcautious

what you need to remember is theres no practically no limit to the amount of light they can handle, just heat caused by the lights. and although i said 2k to 10k lumens ur plants will do fine under 1445 lumens they will just take a bit longer to grow. what colour temp are ur lights ? ideally you want 6500k blue spetrum bulbs for veg and 2500k red/orange/yellow spectrum for flowering

6500k I think one of the smaller ones is 5500k but they should be in the correct range...
I also have a mother in the flowering cycle with a 400w hps, but the spectrum is wrong and 12/12 isn't right for the clones... unless I pop them in there for a few hours every night... I think I'll stick with the CFLs for now

you realise you CAN veg under a 400w HPS and get better results than the cfl's, just set the hps for 18/6 iv seen it done with fantastic results :bigjoint: just have a little browse on the forums and find ppl who have done it. i know it can be done its just not 100% ideal

if ya have extraroom in your flowering room put them under the 400 when the light is on and run the cfl's for the other 6 hours.

Only thing is... I need to keep the HPS on a 12/12 schedule...

I think the CFLs will be fine for now. I started the mother plant on CFLs and she did great in the early stages of veg.

100w equivalents 23w 1600 lumens each.
