Cfl Proximity To Foliage

I realize I'm gonna have to make a 300w led panel or else buy a 600w HPS for next crop
These two are really close to the lights, actually leaves are touching them
I didn't want to lift the bulbs because they wouldn't have enough penetration if the plants stretched further, any comments?

I never used cFL lights before but the grow looks pretty good. But you definitely need to switch to mh/hps. Mh for veg stage and hps for flowering. They are too close the the cFL light wont have enough intensity for the rest of the gro bro

I never used CFL but it looks str8. I would definitely switch to mh/hps lights you won't have to have the lights so close. It's not to expensive. Amazon.com 116 for the whole light set up

led may cost more up front, but you really shouldn't need to do anything to it once you have it dialed in - no more bulbs or anything for a few years as long as you spend the money for quality parts up front.
if you can't afford it then HID is awesome, but requires more heat dissipation and the costs of bulbs.

Growing with CFL's is the only way I know and am totally happy with the results. Into my 5th. grow, and now know that it's not about getting the CFL closer to your tops, but more of getting more lights above your tops for larger, brighter blanket of light coverage. I use a total of 48 100watt (26w) in my light bank placed approx. 7" above the highest cola (avatar pic) and you can see the lowest sites are nice nugs also. This Sweet Tooth is just starting 8th. week flowering. So what I'm saying is that if you only have a small set up then get bulbs as close as you can without burn but getting more overhead gives you a wider swath of light at a better distance from your valuable crop. Of course, this may be impossible... but it is the ideal situation...

Lights should surround the plant... they should not just be from the TOP...

of course there are exceptions...

How does this look? I've changed it multiple times but I've now directed them around the plants in a square. hoping to vege out and get atleast 2 females to flower. I have 8 40watt cool white CFLS 6500k

looks cool, but seems very inefficient. if you could bring the plants up and around the lights more and ditch the typical idea of lighting, then you could use the most of those lights. since cfls are not directional, and you don't have any reflectors, then you could use the plants to "reflect".

one thing that would work awesome in that set-up, would be some directional led household bulbs. Most of the a19 led household lightbulbs are directional once you take off the "bulb" that covers the actual leds. This means more of your light is facing the direction of your plants and not just radiating off in every direction.

thanks, yes I saw a couple of them 22watts 650lm they're quite inexpensive but I wasn't sure which ones to choose from there were literally thousands of different options. I know now to shop for colour temperature that's the first thing I look for now then lumens and watts. it's still very rough I've been upgrading it slowly as I go along. I've just installed some foam boards with mylar reflector looks to do a good job. my next grow will definitely be more organised going to construct a light fixture out of sheet metal for my cfls and a proper grow tent.

my plan with this one is im expecting no more than 2 or 3 females out of this grow so they should fit quite well below the cfls. but I've seen a lot of guys having then between the plants

definitely going to try.

what are you running?

I'm actually constructing an led panel out of my old shitty mars 100x3. I bought 4 cree cob cxb3590s (72v) and am upgrading the terrible 3 watt diodes with those.

I did some side lighting with some of the philips that are like this:

They are awesome with the globe taken off. I think they would be great for your build since your fixture points down like that. If you have a little time to look around, az2000 did some good comparisons and grows with them.

Very informative. I guess to overkill on lights I'm definitely going to to for another 8 LED directional bulbs and reconstruct an efficient fixture to displace light in grow Area.

Just got my timer in today that was also an exciting step. find myself spending all my free time thinking of ways to improve daily. next goal is to install a carbon scrubber. seen some efficient looking diy methods

Dated: Dec 30, 2007: I quite agree but things have moved on in the last few years

with those domestic LED bulbs now ruling the roost

that exceed cfl's by an average of 30%, remove the lid for another 20%

if you want to really upgrade, and you seem pretty handy, go over to the indoor growing LED section and check out some cob grow light builds. that's the direction it seems most people are going now, and for good reason.

I have some of those Phillips 14 watt lights, They work great with the dome cut off. My plants are 18 inches high and I hang the light within a couple inches of the tops. No need to build cobs or anything else if you are micro growing. Use a y splitter or similar to get more light out of each electric cord.

I'll be getting some cob leds. whatever lights I get they're going to be e27s and are going to go along with all the rest of my e27 bulbs. cfls LEDS looking to have about 20+ lights

pic of 2 of my girls after a little pruning and kicked off into 12/12

foliar feeding at 1/4 strength. Tailbone organic fertiliser pellets crushed up around Base of stem.

flush every 2 weeks with distilled water going forward. hoping to get some dankness
