another very fine cfl example of what you can do
they're great for me because i want a micro grow - if the unthinkable happens with LEO dropping by(unlikely) i don't want a 1/4 lb hps monster for them to celebrate with
they never show the setup they only show the plants

dude - those are the darkest plants i've ever seen - granted i'm relatively new to all these fancy strains
what in hell are those?

yeah those plants are mucho dark green, if your using high nitrogen ferts, you may wanna slack off on them. if you havent used any i guess its just a dark green strain. anyway they look good. keep on growin.

Thought I might join the club if ya don't mind. I just built my first box and am going with CFL's for my 1st grow. Your pics were inspirational. Want to stay away from HPS if possible. Don't want to deal with all the vents and fans and other crap not to mention the temp where I live is only about 2 degrees less than hell, so it's costing over 300 a month already just to keep the house within not frying your brain range. I'm trying both soil and hydro this first outing and just using some non- exotic bag seeds. Been Vegging for a little over 1 week and the Hydro is growing about twice as fast as the soil. A little over 3 weeks since they were just seeds. On my Hydro I have 125 with reflector and on my soil I have 6 46'ers ( that's actually just 1 day ago I made that change)all 6500 lumens I'll try to post some pics but since I'm not really that proficient with crap like that, don't hold your breath(yeah,I'm old)Just wanted to say thanks to all.Ya have been an incredible wealth of knowledge.

welcome Uno, always good to see more growers. knowing this is a CFL thread, im hesitant to bump HID's, but im an advocate of passing knowledge. in my experience HPS lights put out no more heat than CFLs less if you can remote locate the ballast. this is not saying that one cfl will be as hot as a 600 watt hps, i mean on a watt to watt comparison. i recently upgraded my flower room from about 575 watts of cfls, to a 600 watt hps. the temps are the same, with the ballast in room. that said i prefer to veg with cfls, mainly because you can keep them so close, keeping your nodes tight.

I appreciate the input Erysichton. I've been checking out the the mini systems that will allow you to alternate between mhs and hp by flipping a switch and changing the bulbs. Their about 200 dollars for the whole rig(both lights). These are both 250 watt My cfl setup at this time raises the grow box temp approx. 8-9 degrees above room temp. Again, never did this before and it seemed the cfl's would be safest route. with size, space I'm using, as well as cost effectiveness. Still considering flowering with the hps. Just didn't want to get so close to bud and fry em. What size room/box are you using with the 600 hps? Does it remain stationary? And 1 last question. How are you venting/running fans. At this time I have my setup in a spare room, using basically a ceiling fan and floor fan to keep air moving. I have em in a box to insure I can lock everything down if there comes a need. Thanks again for all the input.

instead of using those small lights and the hassle why not just buy a 250w. Im not giving anyone shit by saying cfls are crap cause i've done a grow with them. and ya it's not that bad. But it's just the hassle of moving the damn things around. That's just my thought. But im using a 250 right now and i am far more happy just because of the fact that i don't have to move 15 bulbs around cause the plants grows daily. just a 250 and some mylar will do the same

Some cfl grow setups really do need a lot of repositioning of the cfl's. I did something a bit different, a 38 x 15 tube, with a pedestal for a single plant. I adjusted the plant position maybe once a week. That's just my experience.
