I need to know how many cfl bulbs do i need for 1 or 2 plants and what wattage. also, what do you call that lighting piece that allows you to connect 2 light bulbs in one socket? like an extension but for light bulbs. The plant/plants im going to grow are going to be indica (papaya) so my box is not too tall, more wide.

with cfls the best answer "as many as you can afford to surround you plant with" and thats the only answer i can give as many and you can find a way to get around your plant the better it will be!

its a y-socket, just go to lowes or homedepot or any hardware store and just say. "hey i'm looking for a y-socket, ya know the thing you can plug two light bulbs into" they will know what you are talking about

One 42 watt will do fine for one plant or 3 plants in a 5 gallon bucket till they outgrow the bucket.

If you want a real recommendation, get 3 Gro Lux tubes in the 40 watt size and grow as many plants as you want till flowering. You should be able to do 10 - 15 plants with those three tubes although you may cramp a couple. You will get great results with that setup, then put them under a 400 watt HPS to flower with and you'll be set until you are ready to step up to the PRO level.

the problem is my grow box is about 2 ft wide, 1 ft forward, 3 ft tall. so i cant realy put anything too big there. Also im going CFL because the light out put/wattage intake makes it ideal for a small grow box.

I would just use the $20 150 watt HPS for the hole grow then. Also I'd Grow LST.
