it looks like those are regular spiral cfl's with a reflector and lenses on them to make them a flood.

First thing i would do is check and see what the color temperature of the bulbs would be. you want something in the 5000k / daylight spectrum for vegging. not sure if they market floods that way.

if the bulbs are the correct color temperature then i would try and remove the clear lenses off the bulbs. it will stop it from filtering out some light and it will be just a normal cfl with a small reflector on it.

doesn't sound like there is much invested in this. the worse thing that can happen is that your plant looks a little haggard and you will not be getting fast growth. if that happens move to some other cfl's or grab a MH or something.

ya this new idea is kind of in the rough. thought i could use them but ive done some research and those ones might not be high enough on the color spectrum. got any ideas on a cheap energy effecient cfl that i can use?

i got 2 23w 100 equivalent at lowes for under 8 bucks, think it was more around 6. it was a two pack. might be able to find them cheaper online but will have to pay for shipping and ups/fedex/usps have mandatory 4-6 ft drops in the shipping process. that cant be great for the bulbs. anywhere like lowes, home depot, walmart will have the bulbs you need at a good price. make sure you get daylight / around 5000k range and u are golden. depending on how many you want to use will depend on how many plants u will need to be vegging. i use socket Y adapters and put two bulbs around each plant. it can be done with one for each for sure though.
