CFL distance from seedling?

I have 2 seedlings (Nirvana AK48 and WW) that are both about 3 or 4 days since they have sprouted. I think they may be stretching a bit, but I didn't want to put the lights too close and since I heard you can burn your seedlings and kill them?

How close can I put a couple 42w cfls to seedlings?

If they are stretching, then they need to come closer. 2 inches is pretty safe, some growers like them right up to about an inch. You can burn with touching, at least with certain cfl's. I have done that.

i have them about 4-5 inches now...is that too far?

closer would be better, but do it gradual, say move it in 1 inch closer
a little stretch is better than a lot of burn - you will get comfortable with the distance after a bit of time

how long before i put the cfl as close to the foliage as possible without burning it?

just a few days, it's pretty tough to burn with cfl's
but you have to watch for the plant growing into the bulb
during flowering, some strains can put on an inch a day - put a bulb with an inch, and next day burn
best to be a little cautious at first, it will become second nature quickly

mine are about eight inches and they are doin great 13 days old

Plant does look good, looks pretty indica. Which is a good example that not all strains will react the same. AK48 is pretty sativa? Might like the extra intensity. Some indicas don't need quite as much.
