carbon scrubbing my 4x4

I'm going to get a carbon scrubber for my 4x4 this Friday nd also a legit inline fan (active air fan). My question is for a 4x4x6.5 would a 4 inch fan with a matching 4 inch carbon filter be adequate for my tent to create negative pressure and also filter all the odor. If needed I could go with a 6 in fan and mate it up to the 4 inch filter with reducers, my hood is 6 inch. Lemme know what you guys think.

4x4x6.5=104CFM

a filter reduces fan efficiency by 20% so you have to add this to your calculations
104 / 0.80 = 130CFM FAN with 150CFM filter.

Always choose a slightly higher rated filter than your fan for almost 100% odour removal.

This calculation is based on air exchange and not cooling aswell.


Depending on your lighting setup you may need more CFM's from your fan .

What lighting setup are you using?

I'm using the 600w hps with a xtrasun 6in ac hood, I have a desk fan with a 6in piece of ducting taped to it as my cooling fan and temps haven't been an issue, the activeair 4 in is 165 cfm and the 6 in is 400 but I'm worried about noise and having more than I need. So based on these facts a 4in sounds ideal but what do you think, splurge the lil bit extra for the 6 or its overkill.

Id go with the 6in i have a 4x4 tent and i use an 8in 500 cfm inline fan.....I use a Speedster Fan controller and adjust the speed of the fan based on the temp.........

Also just to let you know the Active air fan(green hydro farm fan) is very loud i have that fan......And its as loud as my 6inch elicent fan...... Its better to have too much fan then not enough gives you room to expand your grow inthe future......And since you can control the speed with a cheap controler so to me its seems always better to get bigger fan...... So no i dont think its over kill at all

What are some good fan filter combos?? Anyone have any leads under 220 shipped.

Like Jonda said bigger filter then fan.....Slower the air moves through the carbon the more effective the filter is........ So if your fan is rated at 200cfm get a filter thats rated to handle more than 200 cfm ........Make sense?

I'm in a 2x2x5.3 ft tent... using a 171 CFM inline fan, running through a hood up to the inline fan and out the tent... using a phresh 200cfm carbon filter


also a 6 inch clip on fan at canopy level... outside of the tent, ambient temp is 72.... inside of tent at canopy level is 78....


I would go for a bit more movement than my setup... It pulls air well, but for that much more volume you want a stronger fan
