Hey wassup, I am growing 2 plants in the closest of my bedroom,it's week four of veg and i'm starting to smell it from halfway up the stairs,so i dread what it's gonna be like in the flower cycle.I am not venting the closet with an exaust fan etc i'm just checkin on them every few hours,i like looking at them so i get to look they get some fresh air.I also got an ocillating fan in there just to stir the air up.My question is this,If i get a carbon filter and an exaust fan, could i just run that in my closet without it actually getting exausted anywhere, will that effectivly kill the build up of smell?

Hi,
I an running a very similar room to you, while i do have a little ventilation now, i have done a grow before, with the same setup as yours without a carbon filter and man did it smell but worked out fine for me that time.

Happy growing

to answer your question, yes, this will effectively scrub the air of the smell not to worry, and a small DIY carbon filter would probably be sufficent, for your smaller op... i have a 36" carbon filter that weighs about 60-80 lbs adn it works great, but cost a purdy penny

Hi Smoke. I know of several people that have built a DIY Wal-Mart Carbon Filter (There is a thread under DIY on here) and they all said that it took care of the problem. If you had a larger grow, I would strongly suggest in obtaining a bigger unit. I hope it works out for you Smoke.

I would just get the small carbon filter and fan combo on ebay 200cfm with a small filter. Will cost under 140.
Can you cut a exhaust anywhere to go out of room? If not I guess make sure you put setup on opposite end of room entry so air will be pulled across plants.
Also with this setup if you ever wanna grow more plants your covered.

Trust me... Dont maybe it.. It will free your mind tremendously when you know noone can smell it.. Build, or buy it, doesnt matter, but get it

IMHO the answer would be no. I do not believe these unit types have the "Active Charcoal" ingredient that is needed to get rid of the odor. To me again, my opinion, this would serve the same purpose as lighting a scented candle. Just my .02 worth Ido. Nice idea tho. :-)

when i set my filter up, i went cheap... htgsupply 6inch fan and growbright filter...it DID NOT remove 100% of smell (maybe 75%). And i am venting it back into the room the closet is in too.

As I can't get away with any smell at all... I had to do this...

1) get another filter.... have one inside the closet pulling air out, and one having that same air push through... (This gets about 90% of my smell gone)
At this point you will probably be fine, you could cover up the rest with sprays, or a dirty stinky room... or cig smoke.
I also highly recommend getting the fan speed control (the fans are LOUD, dont let people fool u. I sleep under mine... turned just into the M setting is basically silent)
2) get ONA pro gel... (I just put the stuff in the drop ceiling of my room where my air dumps.. and shake it up every week or so.)
At this point, i would say that 99% of the smell is gone. And if you dont have people snooping (unlike me) you will be good to go...
3) lastly get a small ozone gen, put it near where ur air is dumping (Im using the C.A.P. ozn jr... but it is junk and pretty much not making much ozone at this point)

If you sleep in the same room as the closet.. dont get the ozone.. (i wouldn't recommend it anyway now cause they break so fast).

But right now, with the generator only putting out very small amount of ozone, i have 100% smell control at 5weeks flowering. and im not being killed by ozone...

all in all this setup is rocking... I have people in the room and the surrounding room all the time.. and noone knows... and they all know what they would be smelling if they smelt it....

but it cost me about $300... Worth every cent in my situation.. maybe not worth it for you... but if i get caught..i get kicked out...

Hi,
I'd def say get the carbon filter and I've also been thinking of doubling up and getting that ona gel myself also... I dont mean to take from your thread but it all revelant i suppose..

I dont know too much about the ona gel tho. Is it safe to put the gel in my growroom... ive got no access to my output(in apartments).. Or best to put it in the room that i have the growroom is in??
Thanks

i got a carbon filter when i did my first set up and would say its a must for any grow if you're even slightly concerned about smell.
you can smell it halfway up the stairs already so think how much worse thats going to be as the plants get bigger, or flowering (which is way more stinky then vegging).
obviously at the minute all the smell is just sitting there in the closet and seeping throughout your house, i would suggest a small, maybe 4", extractor and carbon filter from ebay or wherevers cheapest. just vent it from the closet to your room and maybe just crack a window a little so the air has somewhere to go, that should kill all your smell problems.
having an extractor would also benefit your grow by helping keep heat down and stopping the humidity getting to high. i know its only a small grow but obviously once you've bought a fan filter you still have it for future grows.

Although I haven't put it in the actual grow space.... it says right on the label... "safe to use around people, pets, and plants".

If i had to put it inside the grow space.. i would.

but i don't know if i would use it without a filter as well..
