Carbon Filters

Do they really work?
How long do they last?
How restrictive are they?

I can only grow during the winter because of the heat but I'd rather dump that generated heat into the house rather then dump it outside.

Yeah they work under the right conditions.
High humidity reduces effectiveness.
Don't go with cheap brands.
How restrictive depends on how good your fan is at dealing with the resistance and how big your filter is.

If you want to use the warm air, get an oversized filter of a top brand ,like mountain air and maybe think about adding an inline filter like CAN make as well.
Obviously that's going to reduce your extraction so you may need to upgrade that.

I think you'll probably lose 30% with the first filter, you'll have to do a bit of research. There's general rules of thumb on how much each bend, length of duct ect reduces fan performance..

An oversized filter means more contact time with the air on the carbon, increases performance and how long itl last.
I use rhino pros , 8" minimum , they last me years but my air goes up a chimney.
Though I have stood on my roof with my head in the chimney and smelt nothing.. I'd want extra filtering if I were pumping into my living spaces.

Yes my filter is older but no smells, I also vent outside but occasionally I re route it back to the room to check for smells...smell would cause me trouble with neighbours it can't happen.

I've a phresh filter I'd buy another no problem at all.

They work great, there’s literally no downside other than replacing every year or so, non issue if you get a refillable

I've been venting through my plumbing vent system but that's not reliable enough.

I've never seen a tent in real life but I can't imagine one holding up a fan and a filter this size. I don't have a tent rather custom build.

At least I won't have any airflow restrictions lol .

I love Terra-Bloom products also.
But jus needed a new 8" Carbon Filter and went with the refillable one that A/C Infinity came out with. Gotta say, its a nice piece.
Filter came loaded with carbon and also came with a refill. Can't beat that for the price.
Definitely got the odor in check :peace:

I can only grow in the winter because of the heat. I've been venting through my plumbing system which is reliableAnd so instead of dumping that heat outside, I'm gonna dump it into the house, that's a lot of heat to be thrown outside.

I'm just going to mount it to the bottom of the fan ...somehow lol. I'm skeptical if it's gonna handle the odor during flowering.

I really screwed up. It's a monster. How big is the one you buy?

I go cheap. A 4" can do up to a 3x3. Get a fan with speed control because they almost always need to be turned down
I think I'm going to return it. My grow area isn't much bigger than yours, I'm sure I can get by with half the filter.

+1 for mountain air, but i now use ram filters cos they're cheap and I run the 1m long 315mm ones from 8 inch fans which greatly increases their longevity

They’re surprisingly sturdy. My 2x4 supposedly has a 300lb hang capacity, I can do pull-ups in it but I’m nowhere near 300lbs

I believe it is 8x20
would normally get the largest possible but being that these are serviceable I figure refreshing the carbon regularly may be more effective. Time will tell.

P.S. Don't endorese the guy or much care one way or the other but appreciate the discount code. Use "MrGrowit" on AC Infinity for a discount!

That refill bag must be 15 or more pounds for a 20” filter.

You know it'd be nice if you could daisy chain them. Like loading a shot gun.

Kinda could.

6 inch filter 6 inch pvc every 1.5 feet
a threeway joiner. You could make a line of them and as they clog another one takes the load.
Totally impracticle for cost and time saved to swap out a filter. If you need huge capacity others have shown the big grow center filters.

You would need to use helper fans. I use a looping system that catches the tent output and returns it to the intake, I have carbon in filter bags that helps reduce smell. The purpose of the loop is to raise or lower temp. Part of the purpose of the loop is to allow me to smoke with out that smell traveling far.
I had used bronze wool to help scrub but it caused too much drag in system.
