Carbon filters...life span and refurbishing?

Lots of bulk activated carbon on ebay, no link needed. Yes I do have a paint shaker to get all of it in the the filter sacks. Every carbon filter I have has a bag inside.
Nice one.
Do you refill using the full (4mm) pellets or break them down in any way before refilling?

What kind of activitied carbon do filters normally come with? Curious about the type of filling in the longer lasting filters..

Thanks!

Almost everyone I’ve taken apart had pellets.
no I do not bust them up.
I’m no pro, it was just something that worked for me. Good luck

I've been interested in refilling my ACI 6*16" filter and your comments boost confidence in going the diy route. "Reduce. Reuse. Recycle."

Thinking a mix of pellets and broken pieces would fill in crevices well, making for a longer lasting product? I don't have a paint shaker, is it necessary? Was planning on using a wide mouth funnel and filling smaller loads at a time..

Thank you for sharing your experience, greatly appreciated :weed:

So there was a guy in LA for a while who would buy and sell charcoal filters. He would stick the whole filter into boiling water and reactivate the charcoal. Those 4/6” filters would fit in a large stock pot no problem.

I don’t really think it’s necessary. And if I had my choice, I would use the crushed activated carbon because there’s more surface area but I think it’s a bit more expensive.
AND during your purchase it might be beneficial to tell the shipper to wrap it or box it up. That way no eyebrows are raised

why not use hydrogen peroxide?
link says you can even use RO water

I'm in late flower, have the AC INFINITY oversized 6inch filter. While blowing leaves outside today I could smell my exhaust. Could it be I don't have it sealed properly and untreated air is leaking by? Any help would be great. Also any links to the mountain air or Kootenay would be great. Thanks

You don't need help. You need a better filter. It's a shame they stopped making Phresh filters in America. The only filter I would go with right now if you live in the states are Phat filters.

Replacing a filter once or twice a year isn't really a lot when you're growing your own medicine saving a lot of what you grow. Hate to say it. I am all for cutting costs but truthfully that's not a bad deal .... Best of luck though

I do exchange the coal, but cleaning everything properly and getting rid of all the dust afterwards is a hassle so it's gotta be enough once a year for me personally.

Why double? That's huge! I'm not sure if that would fit in my tent. 2x4*
Filters are rated for single pass. So if you put a 400 cfm fan with a 400 cfm filter the air will basically shoot right on thru the carbon and hardly filter it. Getting a filter that is rated double the amount your fan pulls will clean the air better at a slower rate. The air has more time to get a nice cleaning as it passes thru the carbon.

With a 2 x 4 you need about 200 cfm of air moved 24/7. I would use a 200 cfm fan and a filter rated between 350 to 450 cfm. Phat has 4 x 20 350 cfm, a 6 x 16 375 cfm and a 6 x 20 450 cfm.

First time running a filter. There is no way once or a twice a year is normal or ok (with me anyhow). This is my hobby, but I like to be frugal.
